ROFL Nigel, ..........And I dreamed your dream for you and now your dream is real....  ;D

I never have been at a concert of DS and when they all, as well old members as the artists who are with Mark solo like Richard, Glenn etc would play together at one big stage, with of course all the fans of AMIT/MK news in front of the stage, then that would be WONDERFUL!!!

I know it never will happen, but I would love it!  :P

Well, the 2002 gigs came pretty close to that.

Mark Knopfler
Guy Fletcher
Brendan Croker
Steve Phillips
Marcus Cliffe
Chris White
Bobby Valentino
Danny Cummings
Geraint Watkins
John Illsley
Robbie McIntosh
Jools Holland
Jimmy Nail

And all in a nice small venue. Brilliant gigs.

The eternal thing about the reforming DS...

I had the chance to attend the Genesis and Police reunion tours, both in Stadium, and had the chance to enjoy in dvd (sigh) the CReam reunion, and honestly, I will only like Dire Sstraits reunion in this way:

- Several shows at the Royal Albert Hall and Several shows at the Madison Square Garden, so both european and north american audiences (the traditional audiences for MK shows) can attend the shows

- Pre-sales tickets with preferences to all those fans that bought tickets in the past for MK shows (markknopfler.com should have a databes for this), then a presale for registered people in the official MK site, and then general sale.

I think this the way to keep the musical part clean of the too big stadiums sh*t, and at the same time to thanks the fans who supported MK after DS.

And yes, Mark and John are Dire Straits (remaining members from 1977-1979 era, the beguining), and Alan, Guy, Chris and probably Danny will be the great addition for being hystorical members.

So Long

I have mixed feelings about a reunion, always thought it'd be great but after seeing The Police at Twickenham Stadium I realised it may not be.  That gig is probably the worst gig I've been to. It was too big and it felt like a money making exercise.  Left there feeling ripped off.  I have seen rainforest boy a couple of times at the RAH and thought they were great.

Yeah but there is something that I love when John joins the band, I can't put my finger on it. I think it's Johns energy that he brings.

And to be fair DS were always a better band than the police IMO!!!!!

I wonder if this little trip down memory lane has stirred any seminal seeds of conversations between Mark & John, along the lines of.............."How da ya fancy givin it another go after all these years?" :) :) :)

John.... "So Mark, me old mate, how da ya fancy gettin the old band back together?"

Mark.... "Look, i've told you a million times, i don't look back. I'm goin solo now!"

John.... "Don't forget though, we've got the Alchemy Dvd comin out in the new year. That'll get the old fans thinkin about the Straits again, it'll be perfect timing!"

Mark.... "Ok ok then go on , but only a 3 year world tour covering every continent, and no more. That will be it. And only if we can do 3 hour shows with appearances from all the old Straits members from way back when. AND only if we can play an extended version of TOL. I've bin dyin to play that for ages."

John.... "Ok, that's set, i'll just finish my solo album, then we can start the tour summer 2011"

Mark.... "Oh, and i'll get my mate Dave Gilmour to open every show for us, it'll be great. I'm really glad we had this little chat, i can't wait"

Cheers   BBB   ;D ;D ;D
BBB, that was great.  There is nothing I want in this world more than to see DS together again.  It's been my life long dream.  Let's all hope it happens sooner than later.

XXXfordiex,  I agreed with you about John. I like his playing and his great engergy.  IMO, he'd contributed tremendously  to the success of DS.  Does anyone know whatever happened to Hal Lindes?  He's like a hometown guy for me.  He grew up in California, not too far from where I am.

I'm not in the least interested in a reunion of DS.  In 2010 I have seats on the front row for three concerts.  That wouldn't happen if DS reformed.   Apart from that, the music is just as wonderful with MK solo and the band is terrific.

BTW, Which DS line-up are we talking about?   Mark, John, Pick and David?   That certainly won't happen.  David and Pick didn't even bother to turn up for the plaque unveiling, let alone a reunion!   :(     The rest of the line-ups changed on pretty much every tour, so it's difficult to know which DS would reform.

I can only imagine, with horror, what it would be like, to be part of an audience who are only there because DS have reformed and who would surely admit to being "the greatest DS fans" when those same people deserted MK in his solo career and would not recognise any of the solo albums!  It doesn't bear thinking about!  We, who have stayed with him through all the ups and downs, are the real fans!

We can talk about this 'til the cows come home, but unless Mark wants it to happen, it won't!    I really find it quite insulting to the present band, who give us such amazing albums and concerts, to even suggest such a reunion.   I hope it never happens!   :)

No, Maarten, I would hate it - two egos on one stage?      Eric is something different, they seem to gel together.  I can't see it being like that with Dave G. even though I love his guitar and music.

The thing that worries me most about a DS reunion is that, at the moment fans are looking back through rose-tinted spectacles at the old DS days and the reality could be entirely different!   I think we will be bitterly disappointed, because it won't be like the old days.   I think it's best to keep those wonderful memories in our head and don't spoil them!    Perhaps that's why MK doesn't want to have a reunion.  :-\

I would definitively have a go for a DS reunion. And this is not question of DS vs Mark solo, just that Alan, John and Mark playing together created something unique in sound and atmosphere and I miss them everyday day a little more.

By the way, what does this 1976 mean?

My idea of heaven is a place where the Tyne meets the Delta, where folk music meets the blues.

I am curious too, often wonder what all the band members are doing now, or have been doing in recent years.

Wasn't Hal in the soundtrack business?
