10th Anniversary of Tracker
« on: April 15, 2025, 03:41:12 AM »
Tracker came out 10 years ago now! How has your perspective on it changed over time? In particular, how does it fit within the catalog of music Mark has created since? I wrote up some of my thoughts here:

Overall, I've come to appreciate several of the songs more than I did back then. I can also see connections to his later albums; in particular, Heart of Oak and Matchstick Man seem very related.

Has probably grown on me.  There are five good tracks on there for me:

Laughs
Basil
Skydiver (well, on a good day!)
Mighty Man
Silver Eagle

Laughs and MM are definitely the highlights though.  Don't know what anyone sees in Taormina or WIG - both garbage.

Mighty Man and Long Cool Girl are skippers for me, the rest is top drawer.

There aren't any skippers for me, I like them all, including the bonus songs.   :)

Skipper for me: Skydiver and Terminal Of Tribute To. I love especially the "small ones", like .38 Special, Heart Of Oak and Time Will End All Sorrow.
Basil is one of his greatest (solo) songs. Love that album really.

I don't want no sugar in it, thank you very much!

Mark's best solo album, in my view. His songwriting ability peaked here. ODR is a very good album, but Tracker is better.
