MK/DS Tribute Album - what if?
« on: December 11, 2024, 02:07:43 PM »
I was imagining a MK Tribute Album made by different artists.
Different arrangements (of course)

So, i was thinking:
Which songs could be played? and by who?
Could be Clapton, Sting, Urban, Bruce, Brian, Frampton...?

Come on, fellas. Show me your ideas.

Song - Artists (could be more than one per song)

I guess Clapton, Sting and Urban would do it but not Bruce. Which Brian?!

If such a thing happened I can see it coming more from the Americana side of things so maybe Jason Isbell doing BiA or Emmylou doing Romeo & Juliet. :)

I can see Brunce singing/playing on Solid Rock or Expresso Love
The Brian that I mention is Brian Johnson. And I could imagine he singing Wild West End.
Jason on BIA and Emmyliou on RJ could be great.

Extrapoling a bit. I could imagine John Mayer playing on Once Upon A Time In The West

I just can't see Bruce caring enough about MK to participate.

And with Brian's "unique" voice I'm struggling a bit to see what he could do... maybe MFN?

Springsteen could pull of a pretty good acoustic version of Telegraph Road I believe.

The problem is anybody could sing anything, whether it will work that is the question. There is a famous video on YouTube where José Feliciano is apparently "butchering" Every Breath You Take in front of Sting, maybe just not the best choice for the song. It's so easy to ruin an MK song, though... It's tough to cover MK, that's why we're not hearing a lot of covers in the first place (this and his "amazing" popularity, of course). So an album of covers is only a dream, I'm afraid, at least in the near future.

That's why the What If is in the title.  ;D

LOL! I can't come up with a single example of who should cover what. I don't know, Frank Sinatra singing The Way It Always Starts? But Mark already did the thinking for us and thought a better singer should sing this song. Who listens to covers of Mark's songs anyway? I only listen to Gregorian's version of "Brothers In Arms" sometimes and that's it. And I only like Gregorian's version because it's so far away from the original, so the further you go from the original, the better I think.

I just saw a couple of trailers and snippets of the upcoming Dylan movie "A Complete Unknown" where Paul Atreides DOES sing himself versions of classic Dylan songs and he does it pretty good! If that's possible, it MUST be possible to get someone to sing like Mark.

Early Tom Waits would have been good, and Tony Joe White.

Good question.

There are a couple of good versions of Setting Me Up, from Albert Lee and Waylon Jennings

And a good Water of Love from The Judds.

I love, love, love The Everly Brothers but by the time the 80s had rolled around their voices had changed and their version of Why Worry wasn't the best. Art Garfunkel's is OK.

The Shadows doing Going Home is OK.

Acoustic Metallica BiA is quite good fun :)

Isbell's BiA is probably up there with the best, one of the few to have a great voice and the guitar chops to pull something like this off IMO.

Come on, Pavel. LOL  ;D
Don't put MK as a untouchable artist.
I am not talking about covers perse, I am talking about (re)interpretations. Another point of view about a MK song.

As said by dusty, the are others cool versions.
I think that Albert Lee's version of Setting Me Up Stunning.

Dream, Pavel.
Could be even Bob.
This topic is fictional as a hundred other topics with tons os delusioninsms.

Say names and songs, for god's sake.  ;D

ps. read my answer in a good mood. This is not a serious topic.

This is a really interesting topic!

I can't think of the songs right now, but I'd wish for Bryan Ferry, Van Morrison and maybe Joan Armatrading to join the project, in case it ever happens.
Maybe Bryan Ferry could do "Your Latest Trick".

And Ian Anderson, who wrote and sang the best Dire Straits song ever ("Said she was a dancer")  :lol

Thanks!
I never listened Ian's "Said She Was A Dancer".
My first thought was that DK was singing it. LOL

Wich MK song you think that fit Joan and Van?
I think that Bob could sing Kingdom Of Gold too.
