It was surely the most fun "lesson" I got in more than a decade, in the form of Q&A. And it was a full course, in music business, in human relations, in humour, in music and arts and  in giving without asking anything in return. I realized (with some surprise)  that the least interesting questions and replies were about MK. Maybe I am too old to really care, maybe I was never really curious .
Come on, it is not funny anymore.

Ed recommended reading Terry Gans' book that documents the making of Bob Dylan's "Infidels." It's called "Surviving in a Ruthless World."

Only part way through it, but it's excellent. I've read a lot books about his Bobness, and this is one of the better ones. Very detailed (including chapter that details the prep work that was carried out in MK's basement in the West Village), but also light enough to be entertaining. Quite a few funny anecdotes that once suspects were provided by our Mr. Bicknell.

Provides a lot of insight into what (to me) is one of the most interesting periods in Mark's career.

Indeed a great book.

I wish something like that could be done about the LOG sessions, track by track, or STP which are both known for the big amount of songs recorded that remain unreleased!

I had no knowledge of the Ed Bicknell Q&A until yesterday and boy that was such a blast to read the whole thing through as a one-shot. Phenomenal guy. Even better to have almost all the questions I had in mind being asked by other members. Good to know I wasn’t wrong about David and Alan for example.

Shame I missed it though, I’d love to learn more about the MK/EC friendship. Are they good mates or is it just music camaraderie? Once I asked this question to Guy on his forum and also to Alan on Facebook. Guy said they really are friends whereas Alan said otherwise. It would be cool to know details about the EC tour MK was part of as well. Too late now, shame on me.

Thanks everyone who participated.

It's not too late. Ed often answered questions even when we didn't expect it  :)

New to the highly interesting Q&A thread, too (THANKS!), and since I simply can't spend hours and hours going through the whole thing: Did Ed ever say, concretely, what the "grossly insulting, patronising, bewildering and deeply hurtful" thing was that Mark seems to have said to him in their last professional meeting?

It must have been quite something, given that Mark even wrote a song about the incident (Let's See You)

I don't quite understand why Ed -- who doesn't exactly seem to have a problem with being frank -- would refuse to spell this out.

No way of knowing for sure what this song is about but given the timelines it's unlikely it was about this incident.

Ed and MK parted ways while planning promo for STP (as per the podcast). So probably Summer 2000?

Let's See You was on the CD single of What It Is, released September 2000. So seems unlikely that MK would have got the 96ers together and rushed out a diss-track like Biggie or Tupac.

A tip to everyone: To make threads a lot more readable and easier to search, click Print. The print view is so much better, and you get the whole thread one one huge, long-ass page.

Ed about Chris' book at the end of the new post:

I got quite emotional, especially at the crew shots ( and how much hair MK had managed to glue on ).

 :)

I hope this is not the end. Thanks Ed.

Thinking more about Let's See You... knowing everything we now know about Ed following his interactions with us over the last year, do we REALLY think MK would have the nerve to write a song about him that said "You've never had a way with words"?!

Could be another Holly Beth Vincent song..., or DK. But more likely he saw some random musician being interviewed moaning and wrote a song about it.

Very true. But the same (about the way with words) could be said about David of course who at least on social Media seems to be very eloquent.
