Yeah, though opinions are a bit spit on this one. I've heard people complain it's too "cheesy", and too slow, Mark's singing is bad, and the original is much better. Comparing the two versions is pointless, of course, but this cover is a good tester of whether you "get" Mark's music or not. Yes, it's slow, and maybe a bit cheesy with this intro, Mark's singing is not singing, it's talking. There are way more good parts about it though than bad parts you can ever come up with, and it's objectively an amazing arrangement, perfect recording and reimagining of the 45-year-old song (at the time of recording).

Amen. Hard to compare the two versions really. If you’re thinking about Louis Armstrong then Mark is not a singer!! If we hadn’t heard the original then we’d have nothing to compare it against.
But I love both versions.

Always liked this simple but effective Jon Allen song, Jon has got such a good voice. Mark’s acoustic fills and backing vocals are nice, they sound simple/understated but they are pure class in the category less is more and every note is just right, especially his solo from 2.26 onward.

Finally, I bought Chimes of Freedom: The Songs of Bob Dylan (4 CD) There are many beautiful versions of Bob Dylan's songs by various artists. Mark closes the first album.

There is no spectacular guitar work, but this is so beautiful!



In general, I’m not a big fan of his instrumental contributions to songs. Not because of the contribution itself, but I think most producers and mixers don’t understand a thing about his playing. They totally butcher it with effects, making it sound too thin, with too much compression, etc.

I love this song so much that one listen is not enough!    I have to listen over and over - it's so beautiful, especially the last verse.
