Dire Straits - Love Over Gold | The complete recordings.
All 15 tracks, outtakes, demos...
Since the Q and A I've thought about this, usually on the toilet.
I may have unintentionally misled/misremembered .
On reflection I don't think anything like 15 tracks or whatever it was, were EVER actually recorded.
The conversation re a double ( pre CD) album took place BEFORE recording started ..at rehearsals I think ….and only “Private Dancer” got as far as a version with a guide vocal ( not mixed) a cassette of which I gave to Tina.
POSSIBLY TWIAS was a contender that got used for LH ( not certain) but that was a completely new recording with Gerry Rafferty on vocals, NOT anything reused from LOG.
What I am sure of is that other than what was put out, no tapes exist of anything else though there may be a 1/4” master of PD in my storage facility and I am NOT going to look for it. Sorry!
I want a MK live concert. Preferably from 1996 - 2010, but I'll happy if they give us a show from 2015.
Not my time
For what it is worth I would love an expanded. Ideally with a recording I've not heard before in terms of a live addition though I'd be happy with an accompanying live disc of something only available from pre broadcast material.
What would be amazing would be to hear some demos or tour rehearsal material; was listening last night to the Split recording of Six Blade Knife and Wild West End, unique vibes on this tour.
All accompanied by some expanded sleeve notes and photos.
We did not record rehearsals. Why? Who was going to listen ?
Demos…no idea who has those…..
John maybe?
Some delivered to Phonogram “went missing” …..1st album for sure ( read stolen).
Expanded sleeve notes…by whom?
Photos …..contemporaneous or current ? ( you'd never get those..I’m laughing at what I just wrote! )
My biggest wish is for an official recording from the 2001 tour. I know the material is there, as there were tracks on the singles of the TRD album. I know it's wishful thinking, but please don't let Guy mix it. The 2001 tour was extremely powerful, but Guy is mostly great at mixing slow and soft and ballad stuff. I can't listen to the RLRR mix, and though I'm grateful for the 2023 Live box set, I think it could sound much better.
There are great-sounding recordings from the 1996, 2005, and 2010 tours, so I wouldn't be interested in that. The quality of most 2013 recordings is poor, except for Malaga, which I really enjoy! Honestly, I would not release anything from 2015 or 2019.
I could wish for Mark's version of "Private Dancer," "Speedway" from the GH sessions, or "Bonafide," but we know it's never going to happen.
“PD” I’ve dealt with.
You are right…it’s never going to happen and I know that 25 years after I quit!
1- Video of the Rainbow Theatre 79 show in full
2- Video of Alchemy in full and Paris 83 (but, the latter, at best, was only recorded in audio and not filmed)
4- Wembley Arena 85 in full.
5- Full video of the shows that were used to record OTN, Nimes and Rotterdam 92. (There must be many videos of full shows that were filmed between May and October 1992 for the big screens at stadium shows)
(All these releases without Guy's involvement, due to the great risk of him messing things up a lot, in my opinion, he is the king of archive mutilation, Alchmey could have been released in a much better way, Rainbow 79 has the low voices of JI and DK, however, OTN and live at the BBC are ok for me.)
Anyway, I'm more interested in videos, I really value the audiovisual experience that it can offer, it has always impacted me more, I would love to see Setting me Up, Sounthbound Again, Portobello Belle... live in the context of 1979, as well as Portobello Belle live in 1983, since there is no recorded video of the audience from 82 83. even seeing RATR and Wild West End at Wembley 85 and I think I love you too much, Fade to black, When it comes to you, TOL in 1992...
6- Of course, if there is audio of the band's rehearsals from 77-92, especially a live recording from 77, it would be very welcome.
7- Audio of Paris 83 and Alchemy's first night
But, all this is mere utopia, possible only in our imagination, if one of these were released, it would be a miracle.
Ah. Brunno. I can't really comment …memory loss brought on by too much weed OR sheer boredom. You choose. Fuck knows where all that stuff is.
We MUST have delivered to the labels in order to put out but as we now know filing, storage, security back then was horrendous. Really appalling and DS were one of many acts where stuff just disappeared ( the police investigated in UK but no prosecutions ).
Rehearsals 77. Never happened. We couldn’t afford sausages then so def not film!
Stop dreaming, get real….it’s going to remain utopia I’m afraid.

+1000
and I would add the Communique demos recorded in fall 79, as well as all early demos in good sound
See my comment re demos under 17. I don't even recall demos for ALL of Communique ( some yes I think…I’m not even sure that M didn't write some stuff in Nassau.)
