It seems like they use a tombolo to decide what songs go on the album and what ends up elsewhere. But either way 25 new tracks for 2024 is great news. :)

LOL

Actually it seems that with the "Deep river" record already closed, MK wrote those songs and wated to release them as soon as he could, for any reason. He could had left them for a future record but he wanted the band back and record them for an EP to be released just days after the main record...

Maybe he wants go out with a bang.

Yeah, so it's possible to be THAT quick... Why on earth did it takes so long then for the main album?  :lol Maybe the next album (ofcourse there will be a next album) will come a lot quicker...

I've just heard from a reliable source that 'The Boy' may well be available on CD too.....

It would be great.

I'm gonna feed the MK fans worlwide from facebook...

Looks weird that this EP is that short, just four songs, when you think MK brought Richard Bennett and Glenn Worf from the USA in purpose, just for four tracks, we know how good they are and how fast goes everything so I don't think they would spend more than two days to record their parts, probably they needed just one day.

We know they are friends but they are session musicians that would lost days of works in the US travelling from the USA to London and back, so it seems rare to me to bring them just for four tracks, maybe they recorded more stuff that is going to remains unreleased?

Maybe this isn't the end of the EP this year.:)

Given that this EP isn’t actually part of One Deep River, is this the right place for this thread? There is a simultaneous thread taking place called The Boy, which seems like the right place.

I can merge them, for sure. What's then the right place for the topic? Within One Deep River?

I can also change the board name to One Deep River / The Boy

Maybe put both names to the thread would be ok as both would be released with days of difference...

I would call it "RSD 2024  EP THE BOY and it has nothing to do with One Deep River from my point of view.  :)

The EP is inspired by Mark’s childhood captivation with the giant funfair held every year on Newcastle Town Moor.
The four songs connect themes of the fairgrounds and their boxing booths commonplace in the Britain of the 50s and early 60s.

I wonder if these previews can tell us anything about the musical style of these 4 songs.

They added a little quote from MK:

The Boy EP by Mark Knopfler is a collection of thematically linked songs which came together during the process of writing his forthcoming album, One Deep River. Inspired by the annual traveling funfair Knopfler was enchanted by as a child in Newcastle, he used to visit every time they came to town: ‘These are things that figured big in my childhood. I just found it fascinating. I remember that there used to be boxing booths all over the country, we had hundreds of them actually, believe it or not.’
