Could well be. The original vocals certainly sound processed compared to the new tracks.

Finally working my way through the box.

The vocals on the “new” tracks on OTN sound different to the “old” ones, adding credence to my long held suspicion that MK re-recorded his vocals for the original album.

But they would use any new vocals on the remaster..,,,wouldn't they.
The drums on OTN were quite heavy processed, probably with samples added, as that was typical of any record made in that era.
The basic sound and the playing are me however.

The drums seem to be mixed more up front and pack more of a punch sound-wise in songs like Heavy Fuel and Money for Nothing, when compared to, say, Tunnel of Love.

What does "samples" mean on already existing drum tracks, Chris?

It means adding prerecorded sounds of single hit snare-drum (or kick drum, tom) behind the real sound of the snare.
If in mixing you find a snare drum sounds too light, you can add a sample of a fat sounding snare drum on every snare hit; it suddenly feels fatter overall.

Replacing recorded drums with samples sounds horrible, but you can 'improve' drum sounds, especially from a old live show, but mixing in cleaner, nicer sounding samples behind the recorded drums.
In the 80's and 90's this was happening a lot, so I just assume Neil Dorfsman mixed samples behind my drums for the On The Night album.

Thats why I always preferred the Radio 1 Woburn Abbey broadcast. It helps that I was there, but it sounds live. I remember when OTN was released and the difference was stark, especially MKs vocals.

Because you didn't read my post. The drums were not, NEVER were replaced. Samples were mixed in below the level of my real drums.
I'm not even sure they were, but I would not be surprised.
Once you put a microphone on an instrument you are changing the sound. You can eq and congress the drums, you can also mix in a fatter, more refined sample instead of just EQ'ing it.
It's still me playing, it's still at least 50% my sound.

By the way Chris, my condolences on the loss of Karl Wallinger. I admired his work.
