I would guess remastered with maybe some extra content like song demos. Which is what most big bands do for anniversary releases.

everybody is hopping something special for the BIA 40th anniversary...
I hope you are right, but.. we got nothing new for 10th, 20th and 30th anniversaries... so why would they do it for the 40th ?  :think ::)

Because 10 years ago MK was heavily touring and things have changed and so the release politics have. With the Studio Albums boxes a kind of new retrospective phase has started, also vinyl is booming more than ever.

Exactly.

The first box that was released was the DS Studio box, that not only DIDN'T have any extra content, but missed one official DS EP, the Extended Dance Play. Then the two MK studio albums boxes came out, the first one WITH BONUS TRACKS, and the third one NOT ONLY with BONUS TRACKS but also UNRELEASED SONGS.

And now, we have a DS Live box, again, not only with BONUS TRACKS but also with a whole UNRELEASED double CD.

Something has changed, probably linked, as LE says, with the fact that MK is not touring anymore, so I also believe that now there are chances that more releases like that would happen. I don't know how much these boxes are selling but I hope they are doing well and the record company would push for more!

Is Live at the BBC definitely from multi tracks?

There are no new CD copies of this available on UK Amazon which suggests it has sold well.

I would think so. The BBC had fully operational studios with multi-track tape machines and mixing desks.

As far as I know it comes from original BBC reels so I guess they are. Guy only mentioned Tunnel being mono, however that record was just remastered, not remixed.

According to Wikipedia (which isn't always accurate), most of Live At The BBC was from an Old Grey Whistle Test broadcast.
Tunnel of Love came from Westphalen Hall, Dortmund, which if I remember correctly was the venue used for Rockpalast (hence maybe mono)?

Yes, Dortmund 80. Not Rockpalast but Rockpop. And yes, mono, too bad, although better a good mono recording than a bad stereo one. At least Dormund is properly tuned, which is not the case of Werchter 81, which is stereo but sounds horrible...

Funny you say that. I listened to Live at the BBC today for the first time in 25 years or something and to my ears MK’s guitar sounded out of tune on TOL.

Guy said that apparently the sound came from the TV camera. If I remember well.

The rest of the live at the BBC comes from a live concert recorded in London, at the Paris Theatre and broadcasted live at the BBC radio, not at Whistle Test.

Yes indeed Mark in out of tune at the end of TOL, but that's a performance issue, not a recording issue. For Werchter I believe the performance was better, but the mix and the tempo are just horrible...

To my ears, Mark guitar on Six Blade Knife from Rainbow Theater is out of tune too.

Guys, on the question of multitracks, you'd be amazed at what can be achieved in the studio these days.

I just spent a week in my little studio doing a project for a local special needs school involving the use of original music (80s pop/rock) with all the instrumental elements separated by A.I.

One of the kids wanted just the drums from we will rock you. Another just a bass line from aha take on me.

If I get time in the next month or so I'll run something like Sydney or Mandela through my kit and see what results I can get. 18 months of using various iterations of isotope rx10 and I can't find fault with it.

I can't see why this technique couldn't be used as a basis for an official DS release....
