I don't care about Phil's mistake, but the inconsistency in mixes is my main concern. OTN never sounded great, and while I think ITILYTM doesn't sound great either, they should have made a clear choice. Choose the atmosphere of the original OTN mixes, or remix the whole thing. Killer guitar playing and sound by MK, though, but Guy's mixes sound so 'empty'. In a weird way, the new mixes of the Rainbow concert, Alchemy, and OTN sound the same. It's like he has one preset for drums. I can hear the players and the instruments being different, but it all feels the same though they mark very different eras of the band.

I do care about Phil's mistakes. I mean the overall solo was absolutely great and I would have loved to hear it at the same volume of Mark's and Paul's solos. After a 1-year tour these guys have only 1 show with that song to choose from and have to use a recording with problems ?

Errors are a part of a live show, and after listening to it it's safe to say that even Mark himself did similar things now and then.

Of course. Mark is aware of mistakes, but... 'the singer is always right'  :)

The full Alchemy concert will be available November 1st. I reckon it's the complete 2010 Blu-ray version

Which songs on the original OTN are edited?
I know there is edit in “Walk of Life” at the end where Mark is talking to the audience.
The teasing intro from “Money for Nothing” was also missing.
Am I missing anything? Just curious

I was "today years old" when I also found out that they have cut in MK's WOL lyrics from a verse sung on another date that Rotterdam 92/05/30.

Starts at around 14:50 in this clip.

https://youtu.be/qhGksG08WKg?si=TjEmz0bHpERYNcOp

On OTN, the verse is completely different. That part starts around the 2.45 mark.

Edit. That specific verse matches Rotterdam 92/05/31.

Am I missing something? :)

So WOL must be a mix from two Rotterdam dates.

Here's the OTN part at around 14.25

I have to admit I zoomed out when this started to be discussed here and the number of pages sprouted away. Is there some kind of summary about this? :)

The Alchemy version that will be released on Friday consists of:
1) The songs already released in 1984, with no new mix, with some cuts, some harmless (like the ending of PB before TOL and a lot of clapping), some problematic (the beginning of GH is cut, it seems that the source is the original vinyl rather than the original CD).
One oddity, a "Thank you!" from Mark was added at the beginning of R&J, whereas it is featured neither on July 22nd nor July 23rd!
The excellent 2010 mix (the blu Ray one) by Chuck Ainlay was not reused, which is pity because it was much better, and also featured Mark's speeches in TOL and GH INTRO.
2) The 3 missing songs, with a clear 2023 new mix. EL and TBTP are complete, but for PB, only the extended intro was kept. The extended outro, and especially the guitar / sax duel between Mark and Mel has been cut, with a fade out leading directly to TOL intro.

Overall, a lost opportunity IMHO...

This collection of recordings serves as an embodiment of every era of the band and pays tribute to all the musicians who poured their hearts and souls into these performances. It’s especially dedicated to the memory of Jack Sonni, who joined us during the ‘Brothers In Arms’ tour and, incidentally, played a significant role in introducing me to my wife, Laurie, many years ago.

It's beautiful and touching. Thanks Guy.

A diary is online about the Live box
https://www.guyfletcher.co.uk/dire-straits-live-box-set-2023/

Thanks

Interesting history
"Technically, the Rainbow show was as well recorded as everything in this collection (apart from TOL on Encores)".
What does he mean?? There is no TOL on the Encores, does he mean TOL 92, which would be badly recorded? The only track I really care about???
