I know there was a discussion about this. But sometimes I wonder. Why Mark never played.

Maybe because he doesn't want to have a long tiring journey only for a single show.

Maybe.

I wonder if he ever had an invitation from Eric Clapton.

For many years I've hoped that one day Mark's name would appear on this list of great artists. But unfortunately it never happened. :-\ Now I have the feeling it never will.

I seems to recall Guy was asked once if Clapton had invited MK to any of the Crossroads festivals and he said yes, but MK refused for this or that...

What we know is that MK usually wants to control everything, and in a huge festival like this one where every name is big, MK wouldn't have a say in when, how and with whom to play. I think that's maybe what made him refuse.

For instance the Nîmes summer festival, where Mark appeared a few times, usually programs several artists a night but when MK plays there it's only him for the night because he is a big name and can impose his conditions, namely I want the stage for my band and crew only.

Let's face facts:  Mark hasn't played live for almost 4 years and has always been rusty at the start of tours at the best of times.  He has retired from touring because he knows he isn't up to scratch so do we seriously think he's going to appear on stage with some of the great guitar players and look like a complete novice?  I don't see what the discussion is here, especially when he's never been interested in this.

I agree. On the other hand, a lot of the old blues players, way past their prime, have appeared at the Crossroads festivals. Mark still has the touch, so with a month of preparations, I'm sure he'd be able to deliver a fine performance playing some of his simpler songs.

But the more I'm becoming less of a fanboy, I have to say it's really regrettable that Mark decided to prioritize songwriting and thereby neglect his guitar talent to this degree. He barely has maintained his skills on the guitar over the last 20 years, never mind learning new things.

When Mark appeared at Nimes, that was during touring, wasn't it? So that's a bit different.

Rare events, in very distant years.

By the way, with him not touring anymore it might be a good chance of appearance live but I don't see him traveling that far as the US for that
