That MM interview is recent or they took and old interview and recorded the questions as they were new?

My guess is maybe 2005? I think he mentions playing with his current band for about 10 years or so at some point.

I believe that is from 2008 or something.

The MM and Communique interviews are snippets from the main interview that is the DS part 1 and 2, witch is centered on MM and LOG.

really nice interview.

It's surprising to me that MK spoke so much, and so freely about DS, given he "doesn't look back".

I think the context was promotion of the Private Investigations compilation?

Even more surprising that he agreed to do the littel intros "This is Mark Knopfler of Dire Straits".

It reminds me of this video where Rowan Atkinson says "I don't do introductions":

Also, hearing MK talk like this makes me feel sad again that British Grove Broadcast would last for only 24 episodes.

Yes, it probably was a Private Investigations compilation. I wonder how many stories remain untold, so great to hear all that.

Also, MK gently saying that "Dave" probably wasn't cut out for the tough gig that is the music business made me even more convinced that Everybody Plays is about him.

I've always thought EP was about David. The lyrics fit like a glove
I wish some journalist would actually ask him this kind of question. Is EP about David, is HFB about a suicidal farmer who got cheated on, is Kingdom of Gold about Sir Walter Raleigh, etc.
He would probably run away from the question like he always does, but worth a try I suppose

"is HFB about a suicidal farmer who got cheated on"

I always thought it was the case. didn't he say that in the EPK, track by track, officially published on MKnews at the time ?

No, he said something more vague like "I wrote it at the time of the foot-and-mouth disease in the UK, and I've always had a sympathy for the hardships of hill farming"... But I don't think he ever went further than this

Yeah, I think the most of us do, but those lyrics are incredibly mysterious:

What kind of "fun" is he going to have in Tow Law?
"Behind my back, Lord, you made a fool of me" - Cheating?
"And don't wait up for me?" So he is not ever coming back from Tow Law... why?

And then the painful, emotional repetition of "so bad, so bad..." Committing suicide, maybe?

One of MK's best solo songs, in my view. Everything about it is brilliant and thought-provoking

Yes, that's true, but why is it ending so soon.

I'm sure I've read something about farmers suicides at the time of the release of the album, and it was by Mark

Is Kingdom of Gold not about the bankers that caused the 2008 financial crisis?
