After this Terry new information people will say:
Wow! Chris Witten is a hell of a drummer!

PS: I like Chris playng drums for DS

I fell in love with DS, and in fact with music in general, as a result of the OES album and tour. I was very happy with Chris' drumming at the time, I think it's only subsequent things we have found out about how unhappy people were on that tour that has kind of soured it in our minds a bit.

It's still a great tragedy that Chris joined here and idiotic behaviour chased him away, we could be discussing this with him right now :(

No, we won't be discussing with him right now. I asked him by instagram and he told me he had no intention to be back, only wanted to say a few things, that he already said, and leave, that he also did, and what happened had very little influence as he never had the intention to stay further than say what he wanted to say (and did).

Just looked in the DS information letters, Terry had to go because „things didn‘t work out musically“

in which one?

Terry wasn't good enough for the records but was a hell of a drummer live.

I'm surprised they even considered Terry. The songs on OES require a lot of finesse and subtlety, of which Terry, as it appears, is not the master of. Plus, if he was semi-retired at that point and hadn't played much since the Mandela show, then the whole thing is even stranger.

Maybe he was going to play on certain songs, Heavy Fuel for instance would be right up his street. Would account for why Manu Katche plays on that; sounded like a pretty bad atmosphere in that studio at that time in any case and hard for any drummer to meet exacting standards.  Sometimes I think MK should have just played the drums... bit picky.

Looks like MK has something with drummers...

Is Ianto the one that stayed the most with him? I can't think any other role in all his bands that changed so much in records and tours as the drummer.

I think it's not surprising, the drummer is probably the loudest and most noticeable member of the band, on par with the bass player, and the quality of the drummer dictates everything. I remember Mark's comment about playing without a drummer in Boothbay in 2006. What did he say? And if the drummer won't serve the song correctly, he'd end up destroying it completely.

Test

Was there an issue with the forum?

Kooba reported the thread being locked, not sure what happened but all seems to be working now.

Thanks to Kooba for sharing, this was excellent.

Thanks for resolving, Dusty.

I highly recommend this channel for anyone interested in home recording and producing music. Warren Huart is a pro who shares his vast knowledge with a truly positive vibe. He has some really excellent content there.
...Well, he's a big star now but I've been a fan of his for years. The way he sings and plays guitar still bring me to tears...

If I remember correctly Mark said "it takes a really good drummer to be better than no drummer at all".

Yes! Thank you. So that's an answer to the question of why Mark has so many "problems" with drummers :lol

Here's the link to the best interview with Terry out there.  A little bit on OES near the end, not any detail though really

Mark was quoting Chet Baker.
