There is information somewhere,  either here or over at On Every Bootleg that compares an audience recording from Paris with the soundboard version  on the MFN compilation, which confirms that the version on the old MFN compilation is actually from Paris.

So at least one show from there was recorded professionally we can assume with reasonable confidence.

Never played the new 2lp, does it have the unfaded TR?

yes my 2 LP has the unfaded TR

Does anyone know the barcode of the “wrong” release, ie with the dodgy telegraph road and single version of sultans? There’s a couple of vinyl shops near me, might as well see if I can bag a collectors item!
Thanks!

The single version of Sultans is NOT in the lps, it's the normal one.

That’s a shame!
I thought the single version of sultans enhanced the re-release, but now back to “normal”.

That was only in streaming, and in the beginning. Now the streaming version is also corrected.

In the LP the sultans version was always the normal one, but the TR one was the unfaded studio.

Geek vinyl post follows... regarding the master used for TR.

So I took the plunge and managed to get hold of two copies of the MFN comp.  One from a record fair and one online (to replace the one from the record fair which isn't the best press and which I was going to sell)

The one from the record fair has the studio version of Telegraph Road unfaded.  Whilst the version from the online shop features the original live 'remix' of Telegraph Road from the original compilation.

So it appears that the record label remedied the problem of the wrong master being used for the first press of the repress, with the live version being used in more recent presses.   Both version suffer from a lot of static on the vinyl (hence the second online purchase).  Now I have two copies, but effectively different editions.  So will probably keep them.

Thought I would let you know that there are two different versions out there on press.   I had assumed they would have just let the original version just continue to be pressed...

Like I said... geek post.

I bought the green vinyl pressing from Warner but never played it so I don't know if that pressing has the unfaded studio version of TR or the live take...

Thanks.

The most interesting thing for me is that it sold enough to warrant a repress.

The mastering is really good I think but the pressing quality could be better.  Pressed by the infamous GZ media who appear to have sneezed over the stamper during pressing as more than average clicks and pops / ingrained static.

Ah, the famous GZ roulette.

Would be useful to know the different matrix numbers in the vinyl run outs so people could potentially identify which version they are buying. :)

Gotta admit, naming any compilation or reissue "Money For Nothing" is the biggest trolling ever :lol
I'd vote for any remasterings and reissues to be named "Money For Nothing", for any artist out there.

MK spoke about this at the time, I think it was the joint Randy Newman interview in Q Magazine.

He said something like: "I wanted to call it Contractual Obligation Album but the record company thought that was a bit heavy".

That would have meant copyright trouble with The Pythons.   ;)
