I'm joining the club. I've always bought CD's and I hope that doesn't change:)

Sales,or lack of,figures.
https://bestsellingalbums.org/artist/8492

Not sure how reliable that data is. McCartney's latest two records aren't even in the database. It only lists sales for DTRW in Poland. I'm quite sure he sold more of them in the UK than in Poland.
Well the lack of silver, gold or platinum discs for the sales of DTRW would also indicate it hardly sold.

If a sale is represented by someone purchasing a CD or some other physical thing, then it's not surprising at all. I already said it, but I think in the distant future music will be transferred straight to the brain, or you could by a 3D hologram version of the artists to play in your house, but these guys will still measure sales in CDs.

Very few people buy physical copies of music anymore, just collectors/musos. I don't know any "normal" people who still buy physical copies so it's not surprising that DTRW didn't sell 60k physical copies in the UK, but that doesn't mean it flopped.

I guess I am not a normal person then ;) I always buy the CD's

Me too.

You cannot rely on streaming services or digital files on hard disks etc, they can shut down, delete your favorite music or crash. The physycal format is more secure, yes, cds can be broken too, but can be replaced with another one, even second ones copies if it got out of print, a broken hd can be replaced but the music in the previous one might be lost forever, if the digital shop where you purchased it, is gone or had deleted that record.

Exactly, or the artist could withdraw their music from a streaming site for any reason, like Neil Young did. Once you own the CD, it is yours and can't be taken away.
Knopfler, Oldfield and Gilmour is all the guitar I need.

Out of respect for the musicians' work, I always buy the CDs and then I make AIFF files

Me too, specially since streaming services usually takes most of the money.

Yes, record companies also take a percentage, quite big, of the price of the cds or lps, but it's less than streaming services and artists get their money from his work.

We on this site are not "normal" I'm afraid. Most people don't even own a CD player anymore.

I only have it in my car. At home I use my home cinema to play CDs.

I still have my CD player bought in the late 80's and it works very well.

It is obvious this didn't happen in 2023, and it's quite sure that it won't happen in 2024 either...

Is there any clue that could made us hope for a chance in 2025?

I guess that if it's gonna happen we might have any kind of announcement the remaining of this year, don't you think?

Is there any connoisseur of the musical world that could enlighten us a little more?

So much looking forward to this!

According to Guy, there are plans afoot.
