I come out of this with a new appreciation for Bonamassa, unbelievable tone.

Bonamassa has really grown and matured a lot over the last couple of years (also as a singer and songwriter). I'm taking him seriously now, which I certainly didn't back in 2008-ish and for a long time afterwards.

Maybe I should take a listen. I also remember him playing too many notes too fast.

He really has. Have you listened to his work with the Black Country Communion or Rock Candy Funk Party? Amazing stuff. As for his solo work, he seriously should get together with a different producer and hire great songwriters.

Seems like Mike Oldfield has pretty much retreated and retired from the business. He didn't even continue his reissue series, nevermind the promised Tubular Bells 4.

He has basically retired from releasing new music, the last being the Tubular Bells 4 demo, which pointed to something that could have been amazing, but he decided not to continue with it for reasons unknown. I thought the TCT thing might have tempted him out of retirement, he is a big fan of Mark and owns a MK Signature Strat. I am still hoping he will continue with the re-issues though, Amarok in 5.1

Bonamassa is a great player.
His fast licks has a name: style
One thing is to like his songs, another thing is desconsider him as  great player.
He is a blues-rock player and he likes big tone and fast runs.
If anyone here would try to play fast licks on a blues progression, very often we would play a fast run like JB.

But, to pay attention on him just because everyone thinked tht his part on LH was played by Eric... Well, at least, he got attention.
