Wonder if there is actually a tale to tell about the BIA cover?

from Guy :

The photo was taken by Deborah Feingold. She was asked someone to hold the guitar by the head while she took a picture of it.
The people in the studio were a bit circumspect. And then a few days later when she presented the pictorial composition with the sky in the background, everyone found it magnificent.

also :
the back cover is painting effects by Thomas Steyer,

I put this info in my chronicle of the album :

https://textes-blog-rock-n-roll.fr/la-guitare-national-steel-de-mark-knopfler/#Rendue_celebre_par_la_pochette_de_Brothers_in_arms

So basically, they knew the album will be hit so any cover will do. They might put a black square like Kanye West with his "Donda" and it will become iconic anyway. So this girl took the chance and made history, kudos to her. I honestly can't come up with a cover that would suit the album anyway, maybe the one from Money For Nothing compilation would work fine. Probably it was one of the variants for the Brothers In Arms album cover. Or maybe something hand-drawn like from the Brothers In Arms music video.

The funniest thing to me is that you can barely hear this National guitar on the record.

I voted Communiqué.  Difficult choice but in the end I feel it's too much of a follow-up to the debut but without the raw sound of the band that was perfectly captured on that record.  It just sounds too smooth and polished.  There's also a few tracks that I'm not keen on like Angel, Follow and the title track.  Lady Writer is just too obvious a follow-up to Sultans as well.

Same with me, for pretty much the same reasons :)

It was a toss up for me between BIA, OES and LOG, so I chose OES.   I'm not saying which one I want to win - I'm keeping my cards close to my chest!   :)

I'm confused- I just voted for OES  as my least favourite album based on the tracks,  but a lot of the discussion is about the abum covers.
 :hmm

BIA is IMO the most iconic DS album cover & Making Movies the least interesting, but that doesn't affect what I think of the songs on those albums.
Both albums contain some of my favorite tracks.

I guess the album discussion is the 'whole' package - cover, presentation and tracks....

For me it was between Communique and Making Movies. I rarely listen to Communique, but I got to say that songs like Single Handed Sailor, Where Do You Think You're Going, News, are legendary. I've never really enjoyed Making Movies too much, with the exception of the first two songs, of course.

Making Movies for me had to go!!

Funny, i think communique is the best DS album.

You are not alone. I feel the same. Communique is my favourite DS album!
It has it all, the classic laid-back DS sound, excellent songs, great playing and singing, good production, all over an amazing album. Not to forget the fantastic cover work.
For me Communique is a worthy follower to their debut album. Why this record is so underrated is a mystery to me.   :think
