Some news about the Vinyl-BOX-Set from Mark.
I have received it some days ago and the big cardboard-box looks proper with a relief printed writing on front. The records itselfs are Double-LP-Cover, exept KTGC-Album. Nice to have the B-Sides on a seperate LP and the Cover-Art-Prints are also pretty nice. I got big eyes as i have read the following inscription on the back-covers of each record: Manufactured in Czech. That means GZ-Media Pressing-plant and in the past, vinyls from that pressing plant are very bad manufactured, most of them are warped, with dust and dirt in the innersleeves. Some copies had very thin grey lines on the vinyl-surface, wich caused background-crackling, BUT not the Knopfler-BOX-Set.
It is very well manufactured, each LP is flat, no background-crackling, no warps or other hidden faults. Well done GZ-Media. The records have a very good soundquality.  :thumbsup

Seems you got lucky, that's good.

I'm really hoping mine are OK, some people on the Steve Hoffman forum said they sent them back because they were bad.

Just out of curiosity, does it mean that some are good and some aren't? I'm not an expert in disc manufacturing but why and how would there be differences ?  :hmm

Well they will be made in different batches on different days etc.

One guy on Steve Hoffman said he had to mix and match from two sets before he got a complete set he was happy with.

It's weird that depending on the box that you receive, you won't get the same material. Sounds a bit unprofessional, especially when you consider Mark's quality standards.

I don't think he cares about any of this stuff, you get the impression he doesn't even know what song are on an album sometimes, like he just finishes the songs, sends them to the record company and forgets them.

Well, he should care if the final product on the listener side differs in quality to what he produced.
...Well, he's a big star now but I've been a fan of his for years. The way he sings and plays guitar still bring me to tears...

That is not his concern, some people are paid to look after that.

He should at least get pissed off about it.

Well, he has said, after he has recorded the song, it goes of and has it's own life.
Knopfler, Oldfield and Gilmour is all the guitar I need.

Probably if he is made aware about the problem.

My guess is Mark had near zero involment in that product but an Universal Music project to cash in.

I've listened to it all now except the B-sides.

The pressing quality seems fine, I've had better but it's OK.

The actual sound quality seems to get better as the set goes on - maybe GH and STP were never recorded with vinyl in mind so that's why it doesn't sound quite right.

It's made me re-evaluate Kill to Get Crimson, it's better than I previously judged. And I think it works as a "whole album" more than any of the others. It has it's own sound.

BTW, it comes with a code to download it all in WAV.

It's most probably that like you say GH & StP were never meant for Vinyl so that's probably why they don't sound right - I will find out for myself in 11 days!!!!
Kill to get Crimson has always been good on Vinyl personally but I'm of course looking forward to listening to the collection next week!!!!
