Back to What it is and the extra verse on the Mexican release, I'm curious as to why the Mexicans were lucky enough to warrant having the extended version?

The extra verse actually wasn't only on the Mexican Promo CD. I have an extremely early UK Promo CDr that has the extra verse too !!
Cost me pretty much but it's a mega rarity of course.
Guess it was withdrawn at an early stage too.

Oooh I wasn't aware of that one...Only the following examples:

*One track single: WII 'Radio Edit'
*Two track single: WII 'Radio Edit' and 'Album version'
*Three track single: WII, The Long Highway & Lets see you
*Four track Single: WII, Long Highway, Lets see you & Camerado

and of course the Mexican edition with the extra verse....

I'm not audiophile. I don't have the best equipment. But I can hear the difference and remastered discs sound more beautiful. It's a great pleasure :)

I opted for the CD box. I have DS vinyls that I collected for covers only.

my thoughts (in french) about rhe CD box I recieved last friday :

https://textes-blog-rock-n-roll.fr/le-coffret-des-5-premiers-albums-studios-de-mark-knopfler-est-arrive/

summary :

- good sound (listened with headphoines and compared with 'old' CD versions) but nothing exceptionnal
- summer of love is the 'short' version while they released a 'long' version on the official YT channel
- shame that WII is not the extended version
- shame that STP is not the 'extended' version'(few more bars in the end solo) like the one released on the private investiagtions comp
- not exceptionnal packaging, but nice though
- 'error' on My claim to fame credits, as Julio nailed it
- B sides not in the chronological order
- and of course shame that it doesn't have bonus material (alternate takes, demos, etc..) but not a surprise knowing Mark  ;D

my conclusion : it could have been far more more more and more better in terms of content, but Mark is Mark, and we have to take him like he is  ;D

Counter argument: these are the original albums, as “god” intended…

Agreed, we can listen to various editions of the above quoted songs but when we are spending a good wedge of cash on a product we want value as in at least the album length tracks....

Some news about the Vinyl-BOX-Set from Mark.
I have received it some days ago and the big cardboard-box looks proper with a relief printed writing on front. The records itselfs are Double-LP-Cover, exept KTGC-Album. Nice to have the B-Sides on a seperate LP and the Cover-Art-Prints are also pretty nice. I got big eyes as i have read the following inscription on the back-covers of each record: Manufactured in Czech. That means GZ-Media Pressing-plant and in the past, vinyls from that pressing plant are very bad manufactured, most of them are warped, with dust and dirt in the innersleeves. Some copies had very thin grey lines on the vinyl-surface, wich caused background-crackling, BUT not the Knopfler-BOX-Set.
It is very well manufactured, each LP is flat, no background-crackling, no warps or other hidden faults. Well done GZ-Media. The records have a very good soundquality.  :thumbsup
We are fools to make war
