Is it time to upgrade the forum software?
« on: December 01, 2020, 09:58:46 AM »
Just throwing this out there.

Compared with other forums I use online (The Gear Page for example), the software that AMIT uses feels rather outdated and clunky. Is there any chance it could be upgraded? Is it a matter of money? Too much work?

Update the software could lead to loose many information, I think that many threads or parts or messages are already missing due to some updates in the software.

I like the way it is anyway.

The forum should be a representation of the main man.  So it should move slowly and take over two years to reveal any new information.  :lol

See my quote above? What's the deal with the changed font size? Sometimes when I copy and paste something into a post, the font gets tiny, by itself. It's quirky as all get out.

The forum is fine for my needs.  The sole exception would be posting a picture.  It is annoying to have to resize it time and again until it is finally the correct size.  I just can't be gassed now.

You have to take care with what you write before or after the brackets...

I agree with that, also the gifs for the avatar is a pain in the ass...

I do, but sometimes the formatting has a mind of its own. It shouldn't really be necessary. But I understand that if there's a risk that information will get lost, or that it will require much and maybe expensive work, it may not be worth it.

It happened to me from time to time, but it was always my fault because I wasn't taking care of where I was writing and using the quoting and other things unproperly...

An available upgrade should be possible, but an complete new lay-out or something is really a lot of work. Last time we have done that was with the new banner and new colours. I worked quite a time on that with Nelly (Knopflerized).

There is always a risk of malfunction, we had it several times int he past, once all avatars dissappeared. I can look into an upgrade when i have some private time left.

But what's the main thing you are bugged with? The fonts?

I will run a test upgrade on a backup version first in the coming period, i don't want the break the forum  ;)

Thank you for pointing this out Hunter, it's a good time for this because there isn't a lot of MK news right now. Then the forum will be updated before anouncing the new world tour and album  ;D
