I know the way I can see by the moonlight

Thanks for sharing, very interesting article.

It's undeniable that the addition of Roy Bittan was a great asset and gave a new sound and a new dimension to the band, it remains one of my top 3 albums of Dire Straits and David Fricke of Rolling Stone described it beautifully, it sounds like a movie that scrolls all along the listening:

Making Movies the record on which Mark Knopfler comes out from behind his influences and Dire Straits come out from behind Mark Knopfler. The combination of the star’s lyrical script, his intense vocal performances and the band’s cutting-edge rock and roll soundtrack is breathtaking – everything the first two albums should have been but weren’t. If Making Movies really were a film, it might win a flock of Academy Awards."
If I realised that the chances were slim,
How come I'm so surprised when the tide rolled in

It’s from another article, but this quote is one of the most powerful quotes about MK.

Quote
Making Movies was recorded in six weeks, but, Iovine says, "it basically happened on the first six days of the sessions. The right people were in the room together. It really was making a record in the pure sense of the term. The whole thing sounds like one song. But you know what that is? That's the writing, the guy who wrote it. He wrote the album like that; he wanted to make the album like that."

Oh yeah. I remember watching a documentary with an actor and he said there's no such thing as good acting, there's only good characters and good writing. And yes, essentially the success of a movie boils down to writing. I love another story about Making Movies, that Mark lived by the sea in Spain at the time and then sent out an album to hotel's owner saying "Thanks for helping me writing this album" in a letter. Man, what a guy Mark is.

MM is not my favorite DS album, but what I DO like about it is that it is so cohesive. As mentioned above, it feels like one song (except for Les Boys, which really is a mismatch). It's also an album that needs to be played a bit loud. DS and Communique are more suited to low-level listening, but MM needs to rock out!

it sounds like a movie that scrolls all along the listening:

Amongst other things this is exactly what makes it so excited when I listen to ALL of MK`s music.
All these little movies that come up in front of your eyes, and it never stops even if you have heard a song 1000 times, it is always there.

This is all the heaven we've got, right here where we are in our Shangri-La.
