A ‘new’ set on CD and vinyl of all the DS studio albums
« on: August 12, 2020, 04:15:08 PM »
Just had an email announcing these issues at the beginning of October. No mention of whether a remastering is involved, nor whether any high res downloads may be available.

Maybe the timing of the announcement is intended as a 71st birthday present? I suspect he doesn’t much care!

Mark is gifting the fans the day of his birthday   ;D

We knew that the company that owns the rights as well as Mark were in discussion to release some recordings due to the pressure of the fans, now I'm honestly waiting for the live recordings in official version.
If I realised that the chances were slim,
How come I'm so surprised when the tide rolled in

A missed opportunity to name the box set "Money For Nothing" lol. Yes, absolutely zero thrill news. Yet another box set, allright. As if "Dire Straits ‎– The Studio Albums 1978 - 1991" box set from 2013 wasn't enough. Sigh...

Or wait a minute... It's the same exact thing! Only 7 years later.

I've just checked the price of the vinyl box on Amazon and they're asking £400 pre order!

I think I'll stick with what I've got.

Very disappointing....

Boring is a very kind way to put it.

For me it's more like 'extremely pissed off' than 'bored' for what has been released in the last 25-30 years
and what could have been released

They also released a 100% playback Live version of Rüdiger and want us to celebrate Mark’s birthday with it. These two news combined it’s as if they decided to give fans a royal middle finger :disbelief

Another reason not to buy from the tax dodgers.
The vinyl box is around £110 while the cd one is around £20.

The only interesting thing, for me at least,is that the cd boxset promises an album poster with each cd.I've always wanted a Communique poster!
The vinyl boxset is a repress of the 2013 release.
Neither of these releases will stop further discussions regarding a BIA boxset(according to my local record store.)

Maybe MFSL remasters from last year are more worth it then buying this.

Why release same stuff... Bring something new!!

Same $hit, new wrapping.

This is aimed at fans, who already have at least one version of all the albums. And then they dare sell us the same stuff again, without any extras or goodies. Really? A total joke.

Edit: OK, didn't see this: "Each album will include a poster with the original sleeve artwork, including lyrics and credits." The posters would be nice to put in frames, I'll give them that. Still, though. Some more music, please!

As far as the CDs are concerned, anyone know if it’ll be the original transfers or the mid 90s remastering?

The posters idea reminds me... Here in Russia we once had an ad of a real estate agency that said: "Buy an apartment and get a baseball cap for free". I mean that if you want to make a poster, you can scan one and print it, download and print it, no need to buy an expensive collection of albums... Let alone the idea of selling CD's in the year 2020. I don't own a single piece of tech that can play CD's for the last 10 years or so! Why music industry is so damn slow?

You have so many choices, put out an awesome HD collection in 96 kHz albums on a USB-C thumb drive, SSD or something, make something like guitar-shaped USB-stick like they did on tour, make something like The Beatles with their Apple-shaped thumb drive with all albums in mono and stereo. So many ideas, yet they settle on boring CD and vinyl collection. That's not old-school, that's lazy as  :disbelief :disbelief :disbelief :disbelief.

It'll be from the 2013 masters which,to be fair, were good.
The MOFI editions sound great, but I'm not sure they are worth £50(£30 for the sacd) per album so perhaps these cheaper represses are the way to go.
The cd boxset is now available for £15 which is great value if you don't have the 2013 editions.Unfortunately this probably means the posters will be a little disappointing:(
