my dream setlist for the new tour/promo tour:
Can't Beat the House (good opener)
I dug up a diamond (really i little gem, hope it gets played again)

some cover (why should not even mark play a cover some day?? jj cale would be a good start)

Hill Farmers Blues (i know, it got played last tour, but then again, my reply to that is: Romeo, SoS,...classics need to be played!)
Old Pigweed
Paraguay
Camerado
Tall Order Baby
Before Gas and TV
Piper to the End
So Far from the Clyde
Mist Covered Mountains
anything from Shot at Glory
that great song from Wag the dog
Long Highway
You and Your Friend.

..
work in progress...will be back :-)
any Knopfler, Floyd or Dylan will do....

I'd like to see him alternate between TR and ToL each night for a change and it would be great for those of us who go to more than one concert and for MK too;  he seemed to me to get bored playing TR on the KtGC tour.  I'd like to see Ride Across the River back too, it doesn't get much of a mention here but I've always liked it and think it was a great opener.  I've only heard two tracks from Get Lucky so I can't comment much on which ones he'll play but perhaps GL could replace StP?  I'd also like to see SFA dropped.  I've never really liked the song and it's just the same every night.  Something from the OES album would be nice such as the title track, PoNO or Y&YF.  I always thought Prairie Wedding was one of the nicest songs on the StP album.  Oh, please, please, please, no Long Highway - I detest that song.  Worst song he has written by a country mile.

Long Highway is a very nice B side imo.

Anyway, Border reiver could be a great opener, maybe why aye man next, you can't beat the house, cleaning my gun, what it is, sailing to philly, hill farmers blues, knoxville, devil baby, bonaparte, monteleone, wanderlust, the car was the one, speedway at nazareth, remembrance day, brothers in arms, so far from the clyde, wild theme, piper to the end. Yeah, would be awesome. 8) Lot of softies in there but, I like it. ;D

I like the associations you made:
The Car Was The One / Speedway At Nazareth
Brothers In Arms / So Far From The Clyde

I would like, to have Border Reveir at the beginning and Piper To The End ... at the end.

I also have have the opinion that some songs on GL are written consciously to replace some live-evergreens. Funny enough that in some review "Before Gas & TV" was called a "new Telegraph Road", only much simpler. And indeed "Remembrance Day" has a BIA feeling, whereas "Piper to the End" especially the
final part, sounds as a good closing song to replace going home. So my personal dream-set list would be this one:

(Funnily enough I posted this setlist in one of my last posts at MKNEWS, shortly before I discovered this forum here. It was July 8th, and I had no clue about the new album. I remembered it today and had a look, with the knowledge of the album today. I still think it would work out nicely:)

1. Fare Thee Well Northumberland (10 minutes, Richard has his new bouzuki)
2. Border Reiver (Richard can play on his new bouzuki, MK plays on LP)
3.What It Is
4. Sailing To Philadelphia
5.True Love Will Never Fade
6.Cleaning My Gun
7. Hill Farmer

Many good ideas here. But i really hope we get some change!

I hope the set is going to last 15 to 20 minutes longer.
Please don't play Sailing To Philadelphia after What It Is and Sultans after Romeo again (why do so many of you want that? I admit it's likely to happen, but is that what you wish?).
I'd love it if he played Brothers In Arms, but I would prefer him to move it out of the enchores section.

1. Once upon a time in the west
2. Golden heart
3. New
4. New
5. Money for nothing
6. Expresso love
7. Water of love/Down to the waterline
8. Single handed sailor
9. R

I was watching a video of StP from Prague 2008 yesterday on YouTube and taking into account the outro where John and Mark duel on the whistle and guitar respectively I began to ponder...  Will more songs in the same set list with a whistle sound okay or should one replace another so there isn't a predominance of whistles (except from the audience that is!)  That's why I thought perhaps StP would get replaced by GL, that is if GL is played.

I agreed with mossguitar on the opener, and with dmg on SFA.
However, I think that if mark's gonna play what it is without that solo, he might as well drop it. And SoS, hehe (don't kill me), it they are going to continue to play it slow again, they can drop it also.
They could instead revive some old DS great songs (WDYTYG, News, DTTW, SBK, anything), but it looks like it's not likely to happen.

I hope TR and Speedway stays.

Border Reiver
Cannibals
You can't beat the house
Hard shoulder
What it is
The Fizzy and the still
Get lucky
Hill Farmer's
Romeo
Sultans
Marbletown
Monteleone
Cleaning my Gun
So far from the Clyde
Speedway

BIA
MFN

Boom like that
Going home

I think that the following songs will be kicked out:

True Love,Fish and the Bird,SL,STP and maybe also TR and SFA. I hope so. Time for some new tunes in the set.
5 DS tunes are more than enough.

But which tunes from GL are not made for a Live concert? Or will not work?

Steinei, I also hope Shangri-La will get kicked. I used to love this song but I think it has become boring now...
As for songs that couldn't work... Don't ask me why but somehow I don't think he will play "So Far From The Clyde"... Same goes for 5:15am. Maybe because the stories are way too strong and the lyrics would "go under"... You know what I mean? I would LOVE to hear them, though. "Cleaning My Gun" would be cool and "Border Reiver would be an awesome opener.
Oh and PLEASE no "Bonaparte" and - even though I might get kicked for saying this - he could omit BiA as well *ducks and runs*
