Beautiful music, but I can't stand the fake-sounding Synclavier. It's a shame they didn't use a proper orchestra. Different budget, of course.
According to Guy, MK had bought the synclavier some years ago and wanted to experiment with it so he didn't think about an orchestra at all but try what the synclavier could do.
And of course it was state of the art back then. It's one of many things that Mark doesn't get enough credit for, his desire to explore and experiment with new music technology. Things like digital recording, and the synclavier were really pushing the boundaries.
Not a big fan particularly of the LETB soundtrack itself, but there's no doubt that they coaxed some lovely sounds from the synclavier during that era. Top examples for me would be the whole of the NHB album, and Marks bits on Randy Newman's Land of dreams. Beautiful emotive tones and a kind of 'air' on those recordings that's hard to pin down.
