STP RECORD: 29 songs written, 25 songs being considered
« on: September 16, 2019, 09:52:59 AM »
Last weekend I found some stuff in boxes, one of them, a print of the MKNEWS website from March 6th 2000 regarding the record "Sailing to Philadelphia". I took a picture of it.

It says that 29 songs were written and of them, 25 songs were considered for it.

Obviuously we know some of them were released, and we know thanks to ISWN-NET some unreleased titles, so I´m gonna guess:

PROBABLY THE 25 SONGS CONSIDERED

03. Who's your baby now
04. Baloney again

07. El macho
08. Prairie wedding
09. Wanderlust
10. Speedway at Nazareth
11. Junkie doll

KNOWN UNRELEASED TITLE TRACKS

21. Two skinny kids
22. Bonafide
23. You are not even gone
24. Don't mean a thing
25. Cold Turkey

THE REST OF TITLES THAT ARE KNOWN I wonder which are the remaing 4 songs of that 29 between these:

26. It's been a while
27. A cut above the rest
28. House on top of the hill
29. I'm doing better now
30. It's what I want
31. Cross my heart and hope to die
32. Walk on down that road
33. Markin' time
34. Unsent
35. For the want of something better
36. I didn't expect there to be you

So Long

At that time Ed was still manager and I believe usually had a say in what went on the album.  You could always rely on a good album with Mark's trademarks stamped all over it when Ed was at the helm.  More recent albums haven't utilised his attributes to the full.  I would conclude that these songs aren't as good as the ones on the album, unlike the ones cut from DtRW final release.
"...and I blew up the radio in pretty short order."

I found some more info using wayback machine and searching the old MKNEWS site, and some of the different reports says that some of that songs were too country and MK had left them out, maybe covered by other artists...

This year marks 20th anniversary of the STP release, a special 20th years edition with some of that unreleased songs would be so great!
