Golden Heart tour - which is the best bootleg?
« on: September 09, 2019, 08:37:24 PM »
I've listened to some clips on YT from this tour, and I had forgotten how terrific these shows where. The new songs, the new versions of older songs, the playing, oh the playing! I think this was Mark at his absolute peak in terms of guitar playing.

So, if I am to search torrent sites for one or two bootlegs from that tour, which show do you recommend? It has to include Vic and Ray, one of my favorite tunes from that era, and the sound has to be decent. Or would any of you be willing to share via dropbox or something?

Love this, and it makes me realize how much I miss Guitar Mark ...

Hamburg is a great show but there are many others, arguably better in audience recordings.  Most of them from this tour are pretty poor and sound "dark" somehow.  Berlin is the best sounding audience recording.

His guitar playing on sultans that tour was as good as I've ever heard, lightning quick, new and unusual scales.

It was great to see him in some smaller, slightly unusual venues. I distinctly remember Guildford, standing only in the floor area. Brilliant gig. Also my first time at the RAH as well. Fabulous memories....

Thanks, guys. Listening to the Berlin show now on YouTube. Terrific stuff. Great setlist with so many songs from the GH album.

I saw him at the Town & Country in Leeds and stood next to Ed Bicknell for a lot of the show.  I told him I was very excited - he said he was nervous!   He autographed my tour book.   It was really a fantastic experience in quite a small venue and the set list was amazing. One of my most memorable concerts!

Vaison is my favourite next to Hamburg. Galway has  A LOT of songs and has great sound. Gravy Train is on there too.
If i was a Fender guitar, Fender painted red...

The 'Copenhagen 10.06.1996' (Soundboard) - is by far my favourite Golden Heart tour recording.....Fabulous sound!
'Golden Encores' is a good compilation of rarer songs :wave

Thanks!

I am kind of rediscovering Mark by listening to these shows.

I'm finding that early DS and the 90s period (GH and NHB) are my favorite periods of Mark's career. He has made a lot of fine music since, but his live performances have gradually become less and less my cup of tea. Just my opinion.

Listening to a recording from Royal Albert Hall. Sounds really, really good. I think I prefer audience recordings more than soundboards because they capture the room too. And this show also includes A Storybook Love / Vic and Ray - so great.

And on that tour you also get The Long Highway. I would love to hear that song live again.
Knopfler, Oldfield and Gilmour is all the guitar I need.
