I'm no music expert chaps. I didn't hear wrong notes or bad timing, but I was possibly in too good a mood to be critical. In several songs there was a bit of what I call "extended noodling around" and if these guys can do THAT with no rehearsing, then I take my hat off to them!

I think it's obvious that the band rehearsed more for the 2007 promo tour because they played more new songs whereas this time around it's the same old chestnuts like Sonny Liston cropping up and the new ones they ARE playing are the easier ones.  Easy to see that none so far have been live TV or radio broadcasts like the 2007 shows, eh...  I think us fans deserve to be treated with more respect than that -it's inpolite.

but hey, that is what a forum is for.
stil, i think it is impossible for you to tell not having been there. just by seeing the track names. to me, i was surprised by how good boring old sonny was played at the hurlingam gig, same goes for sultans and brothers, all very fine performances.
hey arthur, was it another Q&A or a normal show this time??

I still think MK's worst performance ever was the AOL sessions in Basel 2007 and I cringe whenever I hear or see that.  Bad notes everywhere, stumbling on the lyrics (even on Bonaparte) he looked like he couldn't wait to get off the stage!  I bet he wishes all tapes of that could be destroyed!  Ironically Postcards and Brothers were actually rather nice from this concert.

Thanks for the pictures! The first one in that Gettyimages gallery was a big turn-off, though. Mark should either lose a few pounds or buy his shirts a size bigger (If I was really mean, which I'm not, I'd say I could lend him a bra...)  Sorry, but you know me. I just had to point it out

I thought MK was v relaxed and in great form at the Hurlingham gig. He clearly enjoyed the night. I couldn't definately say the same for last night, esp for the first half of the gig. He did look unsettled and a bit grumpy to me. I could be wrong, and even I wasn't there could be a million reasons for him to be like that. Why worry........?

I'm not sure why you keep saying this. They only played three songs of KTGC on those shows. The other stuff was pretty much stuff that had been done plenty of times before, except maybe Paraguay.

Only two new songs whereas in the 2007 showcases we had a plethora of new material in there, yet on the KtGC tour itself very few songs from the album were performed.  Just goes to show that they are not representative of what's going to be played on tour, mainly due I think to the paucity of rehearsal time they had;  Guy said that Dudley had NEVER performed one of last nights songs before.  Personally I think that's pretty unprofessional and unfair on the audience.

This is what Guy said: "A lot of fun for all...especially as a couple of those tunes we haven't played for a year (no rehearsal) and Dudley our bassist has NEVER played them." So I guess Guy ment that there was a couple of songs that Dudley hadn't played before, not all the songs.

Let it All Go
The Fizzy and the Still

Hardly a plethora of new material!   In fact just one more than we have heard in the two 2009 promos!     So not very much has changed then!

There also was a first live performance of Postcards From Paraguay, not too bad.

Yes, of course, "Paraguay", but it was not new material from the album being promoted!  Incidentally, Dudley played "Postcards from Paraguay" magnificently on the 2007 promos.  He enlivened the whole song!

Don't get me wrong but session musicians like MK invited for his showcases are top musicians as well! Most of these guys don't need to rehearse a song at all, play it along with a cd once or twice and go on stage. If you read anything from sheet music and want to play that "live" without sheets, well, then you might need to practice a while. They just play.
