Best leaking stories
« on: August 12, 2009, 05:51:49 PM »
My favourite to date is Bono listening the then next U2 album in his villa in south of France while the windows were wide open. A fan did manage to record it from the outside with his cell phone...

My second favourite : David Gilmour while recording one Pink Floyd album [AMLOR or Division Bell] did hear strange noises on the boat (for those who don't know his "house boat" is the Astoria recording studio). A frogman did inspect the boat and discovered that someone did place some spy mike under the hull! But to my known no pirate tape surfaced.

the only demoes to appear from the AMLOR recs where the ones release by David himself on a radio show, along with the band performing like a rolling stone in a reggea version and other stuff.
any Knopfler, Floyd or Dylan will do....

My best leaking story is when former Dire Straits guitarist Mark Knopfler was about to release a new album (Get Lucky or something else) and some
office member of his very own site managed to not hide the url so everybody in the whole wide world was able to listen to the ENTIRE album for nearly
three hours....

Sorry, couldn

The Gilmour one is a myth apparently, I read an interview with him from 1994 recently and he said it wasn't true.

Good story though. :)

Too bad because I liked it quite a lot .

If you can find the interview I would be interested - I did a quick research on the net about this story and surprisingly did not find any mention of it.

Ok, I replace my #2 position with the Beatles "Get Back" leak
If you think about it, a really big issue then : the album was first airplayed IN FULL on September 22nd 1969 by WBCN in Boston (hello Emily  ;)  ) whereas the official reworked release was over seven months later on May 8th 1970 !!!

I used to buy Q magazine every month back in the 90s, so I had piles of them sitting around at my mum's house.

Recently she told me to get rid of them, so I've been re-reading them, then throwing them away, unless there is an article of particular interest (ie MK related). So I probably don't have that interview anymore, sorry. :(

*** Edit ***
Correction : I made further research, the first airplay was actualy WKBW-FM in Buffalo, New York on September 20th 1969

Can you imagine be back to the end of january 2009, open your radio and hear "and next the new MK solo album who will be out somewhere later in the year" and get a full airplay of a not yet final mix version of the album Get Lucky?

Nah, I took those with me when I moved out. :)

Actually, that's a lie. I never bought Playboy, load of crap. Who wants to read some interview with Gore Vidal or John McEnroe when all you're after is a quick Sherman Tank? Give me Club International or Men Only any day, ;)
