"Get Lucky" - Track by track

I like every track now without exception!  It's so nice to listen to a whole album without skipping any.  At first I found "Hard Shoulder", "You Can't Beat the House" and "The Car Was the One" a bit difficult, but they're fine now!     It's hard to pick favourites, but "Monteleone" is sublime and dreamy and in "Before Gas & TV" I love the whistle and guitar solos especially.

to me no tracks to skip. the only 2 I like a bit less are Hard shoulder and The car was the one, but no so bad. So far from the Clyde is, in my opinion, one of the best tracks that Mark has ever composed.

I agree that these melodies get under the skin.  If I listen too close to bedtime, they are going round in my head all night!   I love "Piper to the End", "So Far From the Clyde" and "Remembrance Day", but these songs, in particular, stick in my head!

I've listened to it countless times and the only skippers are the turgid and dreary Before Gas and TV and the pedestrian, bored pub band on a Sunday night You Can't Beat the House.

There's nothing on the album I really love (once again it's all a bit too restrained and 'pleasant'), but  I think the addition of strings on Monteleone and Hard Shoulder take the songs to another level. Definitely a step up from KTGC overall  - at least you don't have to look for the guitar solos this time.

pjh3121, I really don't know how "Before Gas and TV" could be described as turgid or dreary.  It's one of the best on the album as far as I am concerned.  I absolutely love it!     As I always say, it would be boring if we all liked the same thing - then there would be nothing to discuss!

For me, the only skipper is Cleaning my Gun.   So Far from the Clyde, Piper to the End, Get Lucky, Remembrance Day get the most play so far.     Piper to the End may end up being BIA's brother.     
I've been curious about the cover art since I've heard the music.    I don't see the connection yet.

pjh3121, I really don't know how "Before Gas and TV" could be described as turgid or dreary.  It's one of the best on the album as far as I am concerned.  I absolutely love it!     As I always say, it would be boring if we all liked the same thing - then there would be nothing to discuss!  

Because it seems to go on forever in a painfully slow loop and it's repetitive. Still, as you say, each to their own

Wow Iris it's funny that we all have differing opinions. For me " Cleaning My Gun" is one of the best tracks on the album. A few people on here and other forums have been desperate for a real "heavier/rockier" track for a long time,me included.I love the Gibson power on this track and for me this is one of the reasons why i believe this is his best solo album since Golden Heart.The mix on this album i feel is spot on and i honestly can't think of a skipper on this album

It's the fisrt time I write something on the forum, and the new MK album is a good occasion to start !

First of all, I ordered my Get Lucky deluxe box on amazon.fr
And after reading your comments, I couldn't resist downloading the album !

After listening to GL twice, I must admit that I'm a little disappointed 
The album seems very quiet and very celtic !
All the celtic things MK has done isn't my cup of tea !
Border Reiver : nice intro, up tempo celtic song, good !
Hard shoulder : a little boring, maybe it'll grow
You can't beat the house : very nice and unexpected song, blues, boogie woogie, yeah !
Before Gas & TV : nice but repetitive
Monteleone : there's a verse that sounds like Heart Full Of Holes, but unlike HFOH, it's quiet slow...
Cleaning My Gun : a rocky song, cool, it's a long time since MK hadn't written any ! I like it very much !
Tha Car Was The One : very quiet and that Hank Marvin sound again ! Maybe it'll grow...
Remembrance Day : that's a cool song, nice guitar and the children's voices add something very original !
Get Lucky : very nice guitar but I would have preferred a guitar solo than a flute solo !
So Far From The Clyde : niceit makes me think about A Shot At Glory soundtrack
Piper To The End : nice nice, but I prefer the country style of MK than the celtic style !

Thanks for your review. I also prefer the country style, but after listening to GL quite a few times now, I have to say, these are really good songs. I keep getting them stuck in my head, Border Reiver there today.

I have listened to this album every day, several times a day and, for me, it is the best MK solo album.  It has even knocked my beloved "The Ragpicker's Dream" off the top spot!
