That was really interesting. Most of those I have never seen before.
Knopfler, Oldfield and Gilmour is all the guitar I need.

So I couldn't afford 'the black strat' at the auction at Christies, so I've build it my myself with a kit body and some adjustments  ;D. Here's the video of the build and me playing the intro of "Sorrow" at the end. Used the '69 neck instead of the '83 Gilmour has used the last couple of years. And along the way I've experienced some minor problems with that.

This was a fun project to do. feel free to contact me with any questions you have. It was way more cheaper than the 3.300.000 $

I think you should have sealed the wood and primed it before painting it. To my eye, the wood grain was clearly visible through the paint. Also how long did you let the clear layer cure? Nitro takes a long time, I understand.

In the end you got a nice black Gilmour inspired Strat, but it's not a replica for sure :)

NB: Do you keep the pickups as high as shown in the video, and completely straight? Most often Strat pickups should be much lower, and the bass side a lot lower than the treble side. This will give lower output, but the sound is more balanced and you get better sustain because the magnets are further away and therefore strings ring longer. Experiment :)

No I've chanced the pickups height right away after I've took the promotional photo's. I know it's not a replica for sure and I'm clearly not a great guitarist.

This was my first strat build (out of a kit) with nitro, did a Les Paul earlier (with regular acrylic paint  :smack). I allow myself to make mistakes (and I've made a bunch). It's all about the learning process, to understand how an electric guitar works really. And this is a very cheap way to do it. It plays nice though (to my abilities).
