I have never heard any shredders who can touch Mark Knopfler, David Gilmour, Mike Oldfield for feel.

Again, I think it says more about your preferences than anything else. For the record, I don't like shred music at all, but I refuse to believe every shredder only cares about playing 'scale exercises' at 300 bpm. A guy like Steve Vai, for example, whose style and persona I am not very sympathetic to, it's clear he puts his heart into his playing. It doesn't move me one bit, but that's just because of my preferences.

Joe Satriani was the guitar player for Deep Purple when Ritchie Blackmore definitely left the band in the 90's, before Steve Morse joined the band.

Satriani is far more than a runner, he's very good creating melodies for his songs, it's not just running, it's playing something meaninful.

I totally understand that Satriani likes MK music, he's a musician after all.

I agree, it sounds artificial to my ears when they try to. I can't bear it.

Joe is the David Gilmour of the shred universe.
This guy emerge from the 70's/80's Hard Rock, it's obvious that he would be a shredder. But he has great melodies and great songs.
He is a musician, not simply a shredder.

His best album, in my opinion, is Joe Satriani from 1996.
It's a killer album.

I agree.

It is a Killer album.

Drums: Manu Katche (on every Street)
Rythm Guitar: Andy Fairweather Low (Eric Clapton)
Bass: Nathan East ( Eric Clapton)
Lead Guitar: Joe Satriani. That's what I call a Top Notch Band.
Extremely cool songs and Live Sound on this Album. I love it

I have listened to some of Joe's albums now, and I think he's a very melodic player. Not just endless, fast runs and scales. My biggest gripe perhaps is the production and his guitar sound. There's the general 'slick' studio sound, and his guitar is very distorted with lots of delay. Would love to hear him with a more organic setup and a more vintage, less distorted guitar sound.

Although Joe Satriani is not my 'type of artist', I still prefer him over for example Joe Bonamassa. Satriani's style is kind of true to his genre, whereas Bonamassa goes into shred mode when playing regular blues songs.
