Not sure why it is unrealistic. David Gilmour did just this on his last tour in 2016 playing some really lovely unique venues. I think it is a good way for someone of Mark's standing to tour these days.
Knopfler, Oldfield and Gilmour is all the guitar I need.

David's 2015/2016 tour had a very ambitious international schedule which included South Amercia (Brazil, Argentina, Chile) and thus covered more continents than Mark's 2019 tour will do.
So this doesn't seem to me to be a realistic future scenario for Mark if he wants to substantially cut down on touring.
Of course I would love Mark to continue touring like David does!

Yes, there are many ways to do it...

Playing a one week residency at th RAH

Playing one or two shows in the biggest cities or the countries in which MK sells better, that won´t take more than a month

Playing two or three residencies of three days in some countries were he always had sold very good

Playing one month in venues like the RAH around Europe...

Many different ways to do it.
So Long

Maybe half-a-dozen arenas or so, here and there would work!   :)

Phil Collins' European tour last year could maybe be one of many possiblities.
He started out with 5 shows each in London, Cologne and Paris and added a few single ones later on (Dublin etc.).
Although Paris and Cologne sold out fast you could still get a ticket, because he played the biggest arenas there.
But for the RAH residency it was impossible. It was sold out the minute it went on sale. And the secondary market prices went mad.
