My reasoning makes me think of something else: with Tracker, a single sounding DS was enough to push the album to number 1 in many countries of Europe and sell a lot. Unbelievable! :disbelief

That's true! And that says a lot about how much Mark really cares about charts and selling numbers... If he did, how much does it take for him to manage a tune with a trademark Dire Straits sound...? Two hours, I guess...

Italy 7, Buble got 5th

Please for the love of God no!  ::)

A Sinatra wannabe and covers artist!   BTW he is at # 1 in UK tonight!

He's not No. 1 for nothing - Great voice and talent....
A million times better than Buble - the real thing!    :)

Slight exaggeration there me thinks!!!

Of course, but if you haven't heard it already - take a listen!    It isn't all about Sinatra, it's the Nelson Riddle orchestra that is also the star!   BTW I'm not a Sinatra fan or a fan of this type of music usually, but I have loved this album since I was a teenager - and that's a looong time!   ;D   It knocks Buble into the dust!

I was surprised about BOTDF release as second single two weeks before album in stores because MK usually needed just 1 song airplaying to wake up aficionados about forthcoming new work. Looking at charts, maybe was BOTDF  a patch because GOYS didn't work at all?

Me too.  It would also make people decide not to buy the album if they weren't keen on either of the two songs.  Not keen on one song and you would still buy the album.

Ten pounds extra for MK!   Maybe that's why it's not selling as well as Buble!  :think    ;D

Australia
#14 (LP#9) – Down the Road Wherever by Mark Knopfler is the ninth solo album for the former Dire Straits front man, who last charted with in 2016 with “The Tracker” (HP-12) his highest charted album, with this new album becoming his second highest charted and third Top 20 entry as her first was this high in 2000 with his second solo release “Sailing to Philadelphia” (HP-16).

As per usual, Val is absolutely correct, Songs For Swinging Lovers is one of the greatest albums ever made (something no one will ever try to claim about Buble's output) and a huge part of that is Nelson Riddle's orchestration.

Any mid to late 50s Sinatra is superb, went downhill in the Reprise era.

Genuinely surprised to see a fan of serious music to defend Buble (who I assumed was only listened to by X-Factor watching housewives) but each to their own. :)

Sorry but I do very occasionally like to listen to Buble but of course MK is king in my books. How many of you have listened every day more or less non stop to DTRW, in fact I reckon the mp3s are pretty much worn out!!!! Moving on chap.....

No apology necessary, tongue firmly in cheek my friend. :)

Each to their own... I don't mind admitting, I'm a big Cliff Richard fan ;)
