Famous Knopflerados?????
« on: July 20, 2009, 01:14:35 PM »
I was just wondering do we know what famous people have been or are DS/MK fans - we know that Betty in the Rovers is a die hard :P.

Lady Di was a big DS & Duran Duran fan.

I heard an interview with Ignacio Guarrido last year (who???? :o) - Spanish golfer who played in the Ryder Cup a few years ago - & he said his favourire band was DS.

Any others????

The legendary guitarist Dusty Valentino is a huge fan. :)

Seriously though, when you read interviews with other guitar players in magazines they very often cite MK as one of their favourites. Just off the top of my head I can think of people like Scotty Moore, Peter Green, Jeremy Spencer (both Fleetwood Mac), Mike Campbell (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers) and Steve Earle all saying that they are fans of MK. Seems he's a real "musician's musician).

Oh, and Geri Halliwell out of the Spice Girls was at one of the NHB shows in the late 90s.

I can't remember when it was but Bette Midler was at one of the shows a few years back (either '01 or '05 I think)

She is a big big fan!

I remember a few years back that Dermot O'Leary made a comment how Romeo & Juliet was one of his favourite songs ever (I think it was when he used to do a bit of the Big Brother Show)

Oh you also got Quentin Tarantino, Don Henley, Sachin Tendulkar, Alan Shearer, Jimmy Nail, Michael Owen and The Killers as fans!!!
Fordie

A long time ago came a man on the track......

I remember reading Rowan Atkinson attended a NHB concert in the nineties which is not that surprising as he is a Geordie.  Also remember reading an interview with Philip Schofield where he mentions Dire Straits as a favourite band (this was before MK had started a solo career).  Even more randomly I remember Philip Schofield doing a little sketch on his kids show Going Live or Live and Kicking cant remember which era it was in with Gordon The Gopher dressed up as MK with guitar and On Every Street style headband.
I promise these are true memories and not caused by drug induced hallucinations.

Oh forgot, Salman Rushdie was at the MK / Emmylou gig at Wembley Arena.  In fact already mentioned but so was Jimmy Nail. As was John Illsley.
