And of course, the slide parts!

the slide part on Just a boy away from home is the 64 strat I think

but the sound is warmer as on tracker. it was too much thin for my taste
here it sound more "round and warm" I may say
and he plays some cool licks, alternating fingers and slide

According to the informatio we already have, that slide part is the song "You'll never walk alone" written by Rodgers and Hamerstein that is sung by Liverpool crowd every game before it starts.

Getting really excited about this album. I more or less like all Mark's solo albums, but apart from a song here or there, I haven't quite felt excited about his music in a long time. Goes to show that age doesn't have to mean a thing. The man is now getting close to 70, and he is making an album that is more fun and experiential than he did five or ten years ago. Great!

There is further inspiration from close to home in “Just A Boy Away From Home,” which rose from a memory back home in Newcastle, when his father was in hospital after a heart attack.
“He was in Newcastle General, which as anyone from the Northeast of England will know is very close to the football ground. He was lying awake in the middle of the night feeling a bit sorry for himself, and he heard a lad walking on the deserted street outside singing ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone.’ Of course, he was a Liverpool fan and he’d been to the match—or who knows, he might have missed it somehow. But there he was in Newcastle singing his song. My dad found it inspiring, the spirit of it.” The track includes a full, stirring reprise of the famous melody. “It just felt good to play it on the slide,” says Mark. “I thought, ‘I’ve started, so I may as well finish.’ And it’s fun for the band to play.”

But I truly hope that "new and fresh sound" has nothing to do with Guy Fletcher! MK doesn't need him to reach it!

I fear it will have a lot to do with GF. Good on You Son definitely does. Still, it's Mark Knopfler, so great songwriting and playing is guaranteed, and I'll learn to ignore the sounds I don't like.

Yes, but I'm curious how it sounds in Just A Boy Away From Home. Is it a long fragment, etc. Ok. We wait until November 16

what I like si that the album is very well balanced.
it has dynamics : dring songs, intimist songs, slow paces, fast paces

on tracker, musicside soemtimes you feel listent to the same song : same key, same pace, same sounds

on this album, each song sounds different from the precedent

I like past albums, but I must admit that since KTGC, I havent' have any "surprise"
you know that feeling : songs are nice, but all melodies, chords, sounds etc.. are exactly what you expected, the comfort zone...

for the first time since a long time, I heard some melodies, chord changes and sounds that I didn't expect from MK ...

don't expect a revolutionnary album though ! all is relative...
but in MK's world it sounds "new and fresh", at least to my ears and my taste

I hope I won't make to much expectation for you all. these are just MY impressions, and we all have different tastes, so maybe it won't have the same impact on all people

I was thinking yesterday : If he chose to change things, to sound "fresh and new", maybe he will do the same on tour ? I mean regarding setlists.....

I actually thought that Tracker had quite a bit of diversity (there's practically no musical intersection between songs like Mighty Man, Beryl and Silver Eagle), and I thought it was quite different sonically from Privateering (not always in a good way). I think the sameness of his solo albums after Shangri-La has a lot to do with the repeated use of one and the same studio. I'm sure this is very practical for him, and he's been very prolific ever since he built it, so I'm not complaining. But changing recording environments (let alone: producers!) would certainly have a huge effect on how his records sound. Not gonna happen, though, I guess, at least not the studio part. My hopes for the future lie on the production side of things.

yes maybe the outro is on the same chord progression. but Mark's song is in straight time, not in 3/4 like the original song
maybe if you know very well the original you will recognize, but I didn't
