What about a third song about the same person? Good on you Son(ny) ;)

Man, looks like Mark were a boxer in the past life, so many songs about boxers. What is all about, anyway? Two people bashing each other in the head?

Nope, its a bit more skilled than just 'bashing each other in the head'! Personally, boxing is a superb disciplined sport...

As long as the song is out, the usual is radio stations got a promo copy to air it. MK is not trendy so I understand that in many countries or at least many of the big radio station the song is not going to be played, or very little.

possible edit on the lyrics:

"You wanna know what happiness is in his eye there* is a hunter’s gleam
Skin of a mango is so smooth (it’s?) smoother than the devil"

that there* is missing there i believe;
i can't seem to hear that it's* before smoother?

Oh, boy, that was harsh.

I get what you're saying, and more than once, GF''s keyboards have put me off. Not so much the synth stuff, but more the organ sounds, for instance on Beryl. Terrible.

But, although the new single is not my favorite, and never will be, I welcome a change. We've been force-fed whistles, pipes and citterns for a long time now.

By the way, have you listened to Ry Cooder's new album? His son Joachim is a wizard with ambient sounds and computer stuff. The new album combines those sounds with folksy material in a clever way.

Haven't heard Ry Cooder's, but thanks for the hint, hunter. I wouldn't say it's impossible to combine folk and synth sounds, but it definitely doesn't work with MK/GF's approach IMO.

By the way, did anyone here take objection to how Mark sings the instrument-free break with «cut it, slice it – chop it up, to the rhythm of a cockney rebel»?

There's an unpleasant gap before «to the rhythm of a cockney rebel» - these words come a little too late, which kind of destroys the rhythm. Know what I mean? If he would say them without pausing, it would work much better.

Now they may have recorded that vocal in one take, but seeing how much cutting, chopping and slicing the poor song had to undergo generally, they could have fixed this, too, while they were at it. Did anyone else stumble on this?

No gap here ... and I think he sings it perfectly well. Timing and phrasing on vocals  have always been excellent with  MK and I don't detect a mistake here.

Haha, agree about it potentially being the best part (no synths!), but he does sound like he's struggling to keep the pace here vocally, for a second. OR different vocal tracks might have been pasted togetether, who knows. Anyway, I hope we'll here live versions of the song next year – then I'll certainly have examples of how I think he wanted to sing this. I do like the drum part that folllows a lot, by the way.
