I don't want to be the old lady here on the forum, but... I love that there is so much discussion about what we love and hate about these five minutes of Mark's music!!
I would have loved to have had these conversations with people around the world back in the 80s and 90s, instead of waiting for the next DS Information Service newsletter to arrive in the mail.
This is not the best song, and I'm really struggling with the saxophone. But I have listened to it at least 50 times at work, at home, in the car, with earbuds on my phone and I love it because it's Mark and because I've been a fan for all these years. I probably enjoy the anticipation for a new album more than I enjoy hearing the new songs. And I know there will be at least one song on the album that I will fall in love with and listen to for all the years to come.
Three thoughts, apropos of nothing:
- Border Reiver IS amazing live.
- Why is everyone so down on Beryl?
- Best line of the thread so far, hands down:
if the whole album is like this I say "Let's go". But I think it will be bagpipes all over again For perspective, it's been 12,065 days since I saw the Brothers in Arms tour at the Greek Theater in my hometown, Los Angeles. Really smiled at "The LA Times lies on the stove / warming there like bread." As much as I'm forgiving of Mark and his music as the years wear on, I love both the tunes AND the discussions and disagreements on here so much. You guys are all terrific.
