What I don't like about the cover is that it's too clichéd.
The title itself is still rather okay, I think - the word "wherever" lifts it above the mere "down the road" cliché.
The picture, though beautiful, is a total stock-photo cliché.
But the worst, IMHO, is the font. Not that it's ugly, but it's about as clichéd as it gets (as it was on The Ragpicker's Dream). Why use a fake typewriter font? We know for a fact that Mark is NOT writing his songs on a typewriter, but on a MacBook.
My guess is that they briefed the designer with the idea and asked him to "suggest a couple of pics and fonts."
It's kind of sad that Mark's (and Dire Straits') covers never nearly lived up to the music (especially as there's no lack of fantastic artists around), but I've become used to it over time and didn't expect much else.
Still very exciting to see it, though. Not for what it is, but for what it announces. And I do love the song titles.
