Mark at the Spanish City
« on: June 26, 2018, 11:42:29 PM »
Filming for the new documentary Mark takes a break to speak to local news:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y-ctwKIv2GY&frags=pl%2Cwn

I see he remembered the name of the song anyway.  Perhaps trying to get inspired to play it on the forthcoming tour?

Unfortunately the closest we will ever get to hearing Tunnel of Love live again should be Mark playing a couple of guitar licks from it during Hill Farmer's Blues like he did a few times on the last tour  :lol

So its a thrill for MK to the lyrics from TOL in some stone at the Spanish City....??

Well MK, it would be an even bigger thrill for your fans to wheel this tune out of retirement and play it next year.

Even give it a heavy dose from the Folk Twins, I'm sure they will bring the necessary flutes, pipes and whistles so it meets with your approval!!  Hahahaha!

I think he really is thrilled. Nice to hear him say he's also thrilled when he hears Local Hero @ St. James'

Just about every version.  It's a lick played during the build-up in both final solos.

Thanks.   I first noticed this lick during the 2010 tour, but didn't realise it was from TOL!   :smack

I think the faster pace makes it sound different.

Since I first heard it in 2010 it has always reminded me of Maria from West Side Story  - "Maria, Maria, Maria, Maria" .    I wonder, though, given that R&J is on the same album as TOL, could he have intended it to be about Maria?    :think

i would say it's not delivered intentionally though, i believe you actually don't have control over it, it would just come out of you in a reflex manner - an automated response to a recognised well known scheme that became part of you over the time, you can't fight that!

It's not exactly the same lick though, because Tunnel of Love is in D minor and Hill Farmer's Blues is a E minor song. Also, I think this lick used to be played in every single version of Tunnel of Love, whereas sometimes he skips this during Hill Farmer's Blues... But very interesting anyway!
