I might be wrong but for a songwriter like Mark it doesn't matter the song or if it's well played or not, coming across a kid who was born way after DS's last concert and knows his music must be a good feeling.

You say it as if Mark is a rising star who just started playing lol. Of course he have seen people from 0 to 100 playing his music, it's just that I don't understand the guy and his choice of song. Sultans? Come on...

I would say his signature song and one his most famous riffs, along with MFN.  Even Mark has given a name to it!  I wouldn't say any of his solo work has a famous riff or even recognisable part he could play.  Ease up a bit! :)

I can't ease up when it comes to SOS, I'm sorry :lol

I dare say that kid's parents are probably younger than Sultans...

All this doesn't justify the banality of playing signature songs in front of the artists themselves.

If I were the artist, I'd smash the guitar against the head of the genius who thought that it would be nice to play it for me.

You must be a pleasant person to be around then.... It’s a kid....

Well I also was a kid once and still I wouldn't play Sultans in front of Mark even if you would pay me for that.

You're right, I'm an absolutely terrible person to deal with, that's why I have no friends at all lol :lol

I'm fine, just forget about it.

When i met Mark I asked him to sign my guitar he said he would if i played something for him and i roboticlly just played the intro to Sultans.
I do wish I'd played something more rare in hindsight but it was over before I'd even breathed or had a chance to contemplate what was actually happening, playing guitar FOR Mark Knopfler, my idol.
Thanks to your lessons Pavel, I would probably play something from his solo catalogue, maybe River of Grog!!

Why do people have to seemingly go out of their way to dislike a popular song and crave one of the most obscure ones?  Can't you just enjoy a song for what it is and ignore whether others like it or not?  You don't have to hate a song just because it's popular you know!  I'll respect an opinion but I just don't get this logic. :hmm

I suppose MK has heard Sultans played to him a million times and would be more impressed / intrigued by someone playing a rarer track.

It shows a deeper interest in his work, whereas any old schmuck could whip out Sultans without being a particularly knowledgeable fan.

You can be a knowledgeable fan and still like and play Sultans though.  It's not an audition.  Fair enough though, I kind of get where you're going. Thanks.  ;)

Schmuck, lol.  Diddy.  :thumbsup

I was thinking in how much in advance they announce their tours, I searched in my mails and found this:

Privateering was released on September 3rd 2012, the first dates announced for the Privateering tour came out on August 27th 2012.

Privateering record was announced on July 18th 2012, so if they follow the same schedule, we are very very very close!!!!

So let's imagine the new album comes out in October, we'll have the tour dates in September, or if album comes out in September, in August we will have the first tour dates!

I'm really looking forward to it, specially to check if the start of the tour coincide with the musical in Edinburgh, or the London (or other not far away UK cities) with the musical in London! I imagine most of you are in the same situation, LOL

I bet that new record release date would be September 28th or October 5th
