I think that six blade knife, wild west end and lions could suit his current style (at least musically)
he also played the eastbound train riff at a TV show some years ago
Lyrically, I think SBK and WWE don't suit Mark well these days, SBK because it is too dark/sinister and WWE because it's very much a "young man's song". Lions could fit as it is an observation-type song. Would be wonderful to hear it again. The mood and atmosphere Lions creates/describes feel so real. Such an underrated/underplayed song.
I must admit I am not an expert regarding lyrics which are not in my language.
of course I understand the overwhole meaning/subject of the song but that's all
I was thinking more about the musical mood : regardding Mark's current musical style, I think that if he had to play some old songs, he should choose some "quiet" ones, with that JJ Cale groove
songs like news, follow me home, six balde knife, ballads like wild west end etc...
and I agree that setting me up could also fit his bluegrass/country style
but definitively, he shouldn't take uptempo songs like waterline, lady writer, angel of mercy, single handed sailor, or...tunnel of love. it's obviously not his musical style anymore
