You are welcome Shangri-La. I know you all are as worried as I am!
Jaki's friend Jean Allen responded my mail and gave me permission to post her messages, so you all can read.Jacki had an auto accident on June 17 - 18. She was on her way to work. She works the night shift at the Omaha police station. The first thing we heard was that there were multiple lacerations to her face, broken ribs, broken leg and ruptured spleen. Since then it has been very frightening for all of us - her friends and family - she was placed in a drug-induced coma for more than a week - and was very, very ill. She is also on a ventilator which breathes for her. She has been in ICU all this time. She developed blood clots in her legs - which they expected and is on a blood thinner. She developed pneumonia and went into sepsis.
Yesterday I spoke to the ICU nurse and she said that Jacki was taken off the drug-induced coma Friday noon and that she had overrode the ventilator three or four times an hour and had her eyes open briefly.
Today she is opening her eyes more often, the ventilator is still in place - I believe it is in her trachea - not her mouth - she still has pneumonia but they think she has beat the sepsis - which is very unusual. But Jacki is a fighter and we have all prayed - and wept - to think of our dear friend in such peril.
The nurse said it will be a long road back -- and Jacki needs the support of all her extended family - and I feel the news is good - as good as it can be in this situation. We prayed for a miracle - I think Jacki got it. I knew Jacki as a teenager, know her family - she was a frequent visitor to our house -Jean Allen - Keep Jacki in your prayers.

Moderators, as always I try to be careful and respect people's privacy, but meanwhile I think we also all would like to know how Jacki's condition is. IF one of you think the message is too private, then please delete it!
I have sent a card today to Jacki and I am sure she will love all the cards from people around the world and make her smile!
