Remember though that that review is from 1983. I think that matters.
It may matter to you. In my opinion the overall standard of film making has got worse in the last 35 years, not better.

Again, each to their own.

Couldn't agree more with that Dusty.

YEs, I agree too...

The way the film is done makes it perfect to me.

There is something that always makes me smile, and it's the guy on the motorbike. Anytime anyone tries to cross the street, the motorbike pass without stop, always, a curios joke  ;D

Another thing that bugged me was that it wasn't funny enough to be a comedy and not dramatic enough to be a drama. And the attempts at humor often fell flat in my opinion. And the guy who played the Olsen character - could he be more overacting and irritating?

Sorry, guys. It just wasn't for me. We like what we like, and I'll shut up to not ruin the party.

Not a fan of it then?  :lol

That's cool.  Try one of the other films maybe?

Not a fan, no. I really wanted to.

I like Wag the Dog and The Princess Bride. A Shot at Glory was OK-ish. Very predictable. It's a long time since I watched Cal, but it was good, I thought then. I can't remember if I liked Comfort and Joy. I haven't watched Metroland or Altamira.

You can't want to. You like it or not, that's what it is :)

Any of the MK scored films has its thing. The first time I watched Local hero I thought it was very boring, very bad. But that's because at that moment I was very into blockbusters and succesful films, I wasn't ready for that kind of movies. Many years later I watched it again and I loved it, I understood better what was the film about, the characters, the scenary...

"I wanted to" meaning "I was trying to be as positive as I could".

I also like smaller films, often with unknown actors. But even with good actors, a movie can be bad if it's made or written badly.

Thats the thing. Local hero is made and written very well. It tells the story Bill Forsyth wanted to tell in the way he wanted. You simply don't like it. Don't worry, anyone is different.

That's the thing. I don't think it was well written. The dialog really isn't good. It actually feels more like lines delivered at a theater. Even the great Burt Lancaster sounds as if he's on stage.

The movie is also too long. It would definitely have helped to cut 20 minutes.

I guess I wasn't a fan :D

I'm not a musical guy, but I can actually see now how LH could work on stage. As musical though, hm. Maybe.

I like Wag the Dog; managed to see it in an independent cinema.  Princess Bride is not my genre so I have no interest in it.  I can't believe I haven't seen A Shot at Glory yet, or Cal for that matter.  Comfort and Joy I enjoyed immensely since the story is true and local to me.  I also like Bill Paterson.  Same here with Metroland and Altamira.

These are all great movies for me.
Somehow I have got an impression that you always come to some sort of struggle if you want Mark get involved into it, you always have to have him convinced afterwards, i mean he wouldn't do it if the plot is not right for him, and there are some examples about out there, and i salute that!
