Just a few quick ones here and a POV, I for one enjoy surprises therefore when information is ready to be shared well that’s when it’s ready to be shared. Although it’s much to early to tell but does anyone on the project anticipate a NY run? Finally and I’m not certain how this works but will the band play the “actual” music in the theater during the performance? At least for the first few opening nights? Reason why I ask is many years ago I saw TOMMY in NY and noticed a combination of live and non live music from the pit all of which added to a great musical performance. BTW: Many years ago a prickly case of sciatica was present during a tour, so in hindsight, Don’t Break A Leg…..

GF:

Oh yes, the band will most certainly be playing live. it's very much a live show.

This sounds as though they will be playing live at every performance, so depending on how long this musical will run in Edinburgh and London, I wonder if there will be a tour of the new album also sometime next year?    :think

When Guy said "the band" he doesn't necessarily mean The Dullards - he probably means the band that will form to perform the musical.

Yes, maybe.  We will know eventually I suppose, but that seems the most likely scenario.   :)

In a musical they are ACTORS and MUSICIANS playing.

Both are going to be exclusively hired for the musical and it won't be MK neither his band, that would be very expensive for the musical.

Also the musical will be represented in Edinburgh and London for a while and having MK and his band wouldn't be affordable

It won't be Mark's band. Why on earth would he want to be sat in an orchestra pit night after night? I think the word band was meant to mean whoever the professional musicians are that are hired for the run of the show, not Mark or his band.
Knopfler, Oldfield and Gilmour is all the guitar I need.

Certainly not Mark's band. He meant there will be a house band performing live in every presentation rather than playback.

I'm not a fan of musicals nor know much about the process but my understanding is that Mark recorded the music and the actors the vocals. In the musical presentation the house band will replicate the original recording live and the actors will sing over it live as well.

Just recieved this by mail, from markknopfler.com. There is a signup button for a pre sale code.

Just read the e-mail after arriving home.  Nice news that there are a good number of dates, although trying to get the premier is still a must!

I cant go there anyway, but I thought more of the line "with brand new music and lyrics from Mark". (lines from the MK email)
Should that be interpreted as the band that are hired are going to play some brand new MK music. Thats very interesting.
OR  the band hired are playing the well known LH music and that is considered as "brand new".
What do you think ?

I'm surprised to see it's a short run, in Edinburgh, and also in London... I thought that at least in London they would try to have it running a smuch as they can...

Any chance there will be a DVD release, or at least a broadcast ? (not the premiere of course, but a late show)

It's the only way to see live the songs MK has done for it.
