Perhaps you didn’t enjoy it - you’ve gone very quiet!

Just back home.

So, overall it was a great show and I don't mind admitting I was in tears at the end.

I was really surprised that the songs were so "MK like". That seems like a strange thing to say but I think I thought they would be in a different "musical theatre" style. But really they will be very familiar to all of us. As with the last few albums, lots of little motifs we've heard before.

Off the top of my head I was reminded of Good On You Son, Monteleone, Heart Full of Holes, Hard Shoulder and Beryl. Probably others.

The guitarist in the band did a good job of mimicking MK, to the extent that I did wonder if he had sat in for the night.

So the songs are good, but not amazing. In fact, they are probably the weakest part of the show, not   that they are weak, just weaker than the script, staging and acting which is all fabulous.

I really hope we get to hear MK's demos as it will essentially be another MK solo album.

Stand out songs for me were I Wonder If I Can Go Home Again and Big Mac.

Just remember you’ve only heard the songs once!

True, but that's going to be the case for most musical goers.

Do you think non MK fans will come out of the show raving about how good the songs are?

I think they’ll say how much they enjoyed the show. If the songs were weak, they wouldn’t have, so they make a substantial contribution. Of course, they’re not all masterpieces, but that’s not exactly the role of a song in a musical.

Never said they were weak.

No, you didn’t, quite! And your point about most people only hearing the songs once is absolutely valid. I wonder if it would have been an idea to slip one or two old favourites in - wouldn’t be hard to integrate say 'Walk of Life' just so there’s a bit more familiarity. Only one or two, and tastefully, I wouldn’t want to turn it into a jukebox musical.

I think that would have been cheesy to be honest.

It really works as is. I was just making the point, as others have done, that the songs aren't amazing compared to everything else.

That shouldn't really be a surprise given that just about everyone else involved is experienced in the genre and this is MK's first time.

Yes you’re probably right, probably cheesy.
