"I’ve just returned from a couple of weeks recording in London with Mark & Co.  It’s the first time we’ve been all together since wrapping up the 2015 tour.  We had a great time laughing our heads off, drinking gallons of tea, barrels of ale, eating like there’s no tomorrow and in between managed to get over a dozen songs recorded.  Good times and too much fun with great friends and massively talented people."

I love how clear and informative this is. So the first "real" band session for the new album is over, over a dozen songs recorded. Whatever the secret project is, it seems it has not automatically someting to do with the usual band. Over a dozen songs in one session (two weeks?) seems very much to me.

Well a dozen usually makes up an album and then there's the bonus tracks for the deluxe copies so that makes sense.  I take it then that Mark must've already decided which ones weren't good enough for the final cut before calling RB.

Does "Mark & Co." include the folkies though...

We know that John McCusker, Michael McGoldrick, Tom Walsh were in the British Grove studio. We do not know if this did not concern a mysterious project

Over a dozen songs in 2 weeks is not usual at all. Especially when you consider that a good chunk of his band are Nashville Studio Pros who are accustomed to cutting an album in a day or two.

Yesterday in one radio station I heard how the presenter said that the new MK album is already finished and mixed - information from good sources. Unfortunately, I did not write to the presenter but I wonder what are the good sources

They did another twoo weeks or so band sessions (without Richard Bennett) as ilustrated in the first diary entry of Guy. There were all except Richard and the folkies, so maybe for those sessions MK played all guitars in overdubs.

The secret project had other band sessions during last year, as mentioned by Guy too, apparently without Richard as he was busy with Neil Diamond.

I wondered only because they were/are all playing in the Celtic Connections and that runs until the 4th February.
