Folks, it's not the jokes that might be preventing new people from joining; it's the constant talking about this argument instead of MK stuff

The thing is that I am also concerned about this forum as it has dramatically changed in terms of culture of discussion and confrontation. Everything is drowned with Policital Correctness which is a true plague of our days. I go directly into confrontation more often now as soon as I detect it. And it is not helpful to read only and never post but come up with that PC bat and attacking posters for it. If you are not take part of discussions it is very easy to nitpick about things like opinions and gender and stuff. If you actively discuss here you will see how hard it is. Each to his/her own of course, but when I read stuff like "I normally do not post here often but I am concerned about bashing or style of discussion.." etc. I really think that is not helpful. (Not addressed to superval) Take part and do something to make it better is my advice.

So I am  concerned about AMIT, too, but from another point of view.

LE

So "male clique" is OK now is it?   :hmm    ;)

I rest my case. It's pointless.

Actually there is not MK stuff to talk about... We already have a 122 pages or more thread wondering about what in heaven is doing MK in his studio since September 2016.

Had you checked that thread or you only do it when you see negative things?

Amit is so big and so full of threads that you can focus on the information instead and, believe me, there is almost nothing you won't find in this forum. We usually handle information that is not even in the official web site!!!!

You nailed it.

Guys, the world revolves around differences. The problem is not 'negativity', the problem here is political correctness. If potential new members or long lost ones show up and come across all this friendly fire that has absolutely nothing to do with MK they will probably walk away, but if they drop by and see a bunch of reasonable and knowledgeable individuals respectfuly exposing their often diverse arguments and opinions they will actually want to jump in and take part of it. We are not Justin Bieber fans. We are ALL smart, mature and polite people. I'm not here to bootlick Mark Knopfler. I love him but I love my parents better and still criticize them when they do something I disapprove - and they do the same, more often than I do. In the end it just shows that we care about one another. I care about Mark, if I didn't I wouldn't bother writing this.

Can we just accept that everyone around here loves and  looks up to Mark? Then can we also accept that people are different and express their love and admiration differently? If you disagree with me either ignore it or bring something to the table instead of criticizing my opinion. I promise you no fan will turn their back to AMIT if two people are politely disagreeing on Mark related stuff, but they will if this PC outbreak continues.

We are polite disagreeing, until someone comes and throw in our face that we can't because as fans, we only can agree... That starts the fire always. As it did now.

You cannot arrive as new to somewhere and say "hey, I don't like what you do", you first have to check that place and if you like it, stay in it and join the conversation, agreeing or disagreeing, but you never can tell anyone to change cause you don't like it...

So is mentioning gender not a dirty word anymore, Ed?     When we last discussed this, I said I would try to be more PC in future, but you said something like "No, don't do that - being PC is boring" or words to that effect.   Now both LE and yourself are saying PC is a plague - so shall I go back to being non-PC?   Confused!     :hmm     :think

Agree 100%.

Negativity is only there if you look for it.  Criticism is not the same as negativity.  You must already be a negative person if reading criticism gets you down.  If all you want to read is positive things about Mark then you should perhaps live in your own little bubble and brainwash yourself because it simply cannot possibly be true.  We are all huge fans of Mark on here so it is our way of showing how we care.

If you have been a long term fan then you will have seen the good times and can make comparisons.  If you are a more recent fan then perhaps you find this criticism a bit harsh.  That is understandable.  However you must be understandable too and respect all opinions.

Political correctness has to be based on logic not on "trend". Nowadays there are so much fake and exaggerated political correctness that even comedians can do what they did all his life because almost everything they say is against political correctness.

This exaggerated PC thing would lead us to something like the, with due respect, the silent cemetery that MKNEWS forum is nowadays...

Is that what you want?

I also like PC but a logical one. I think many times we take what we read in a direction that has nothing to do with reality...

Please don't misunderstand what I'm saying... I'm trying to talk about something quite big in a language that is not my own and it's a big effort, and I'm quite scared that some of you feel attacked when you are not, or at least is not my intention.

Superval, as you said yourself I said PC is boring back then and said it again now. The gender card can be played to backup PC or to deconstruct it, it depends on the context.

I will always be against PC and what I said to you a few months ago actually reinforces it.

From my point of view, respect and logic beats PC.

I don't see what we can't mention gender if we do it with respect?

However, sadly there will be always offended because of that fake and exaggerated PC.

Just for the record, I read what LE wrote again and he definitely did not play it, he simply mentioned gender, superficially. That's nitpicking.

Ok, this is what I'll be doing from this very moment onwards. I'll continue to express my opinion freely and ignore any comments that criticize me for having one. If a member disagrees with the opinion itself, as long as there's mutual respect, I'll be more than happy to discuss it, just like in real life. I'm done with it.

Ok, I saw from where this gender thing comes...

Actually I would say it's overreacting to others people comments. This would work better if we assume that actually nobody wants to offend the rest. Unless they clearly do.

Edit: I want to add that I even find funny that any male could be offended by a clique, very funny!

I indeed think that Val is a very funny and nice person so this PC thing and gender cliques are nonsense.
