Absolutely tragic that someone sat on this interview for 35 years and only let people hear it to try to score points.

Any other unreleased gems The Visitor? Or are they being saved for a rainy day?

If that was the case I would agree.

This recording was sourced from an internet auction last year and it took a long time to arrange a tape transfer from the quarter inch master. I called in a favour and got the recording digitised as a Christmas present , which I then chose to share with other "fans".

As it is the only thing that is tragic is your inability to say thanks.

Thank you.   :)
But a spoonful of forgiveness
Goes a long, long way
And we all should do our best
To get along

We're all appreciate this, of course Dusty's point is understandable, but gem is always gem.

Thanks a lot, mate. Haven’t found the time to hear the whole recording yet but I’m planning on doing it next weekend.

I apologise again The Visitor, the timing along with the ongoing Legacy discussion led me to put two and two together and come up with five but I accept that it was a coincidence and I too offer my thanks. Digitising and uploading stuff can be a real PITA.

Thanks folks, and Dusty , appreciated.  We all love the music so much , and I'm happy for that, even when it takes us in certain directions.

Happy New Year - peace and prosperity to all

If I am not mistaken, Mark says "I know the feeling of being unemployed... it's the worst feeling that there is" and "it cost me a relationship".

I think that's pretty personal and puts a total new light on the lyrics for me apart from it "just" being adapted from that Hamsun novel...

I can agree and relate to that... The worst feeling ever. It didn't cost me a relationship, but I was closer to it than a mic and amplifier!

It happened to me in 2011. Two months into unemployment and early stages of depression the bitch dumped me. Worst feeling ever.

During his Leeds days, he got married to Kathy White, he was working as a journalist in the Evening Post and, if I remember well, when married, he left the newspaper to study at the Leeds University. I think his wife was a teacher then so they lived with her salary, and in the holydays from University he went to work at the farm of the White Family in Newcastle.

When he got divorced, he left to London and start working at a collegue, work that he left again at the early days of Dire straits to concentrate in the band.

He could be talking about both moments of unemployment, but I guess he talks mainly about the first one.
