You are quite right. I think it has been scheduled for release more than once before! But this time I get the feeling it might actually happen. Let’s wait and see.

I expect it to be connected to some other form of release, not as a part of it but using PR effects like they did this year (auction/album/EP). There will be another (Live or Soundtrack) Box maybe somewhere around April/May, Best Of, Live Album whatever, and they probably think it's the best time to get rid of the film finally.  ;)

Henrick Hansen Documentary
Henrick Hansen, who did the short film for the Tracker album promotion, is to make a Mark Knopfler documentary scheduled for a 2018 release together with an in-concert film featuring live performances from the Tracker tour. A Tracker live album may possibly accompany the documentary.

And the first post of this topic as well ;D

It's great that the Hansen documentary has a title, for me it means that now it's going to happen.

And makes sense, as long as MK has retired from touring, they have filmed by Hansen several concerts from the 2015 tour and I don't know if they have anything filmed by him but we know they bought the O2 arena tapes from the screens so maybe they can do a kind of "end of touring" kind of documentary and switch to just a recording artist.

I hope this documentary could reach at least some cinemas at least in the UK and also have a special screening with the typical from 2024 interviews to MK by Paul Sexton, which are sadly our only chance to see MK "live" nowadays, and it could be also our onlychance to have our typical meeting betwen fans around MK related things.

I am curious to see whether they also include footage from older tours (we know they filmed concerts like Madrid 2001, Lisbon 2010, etc.) But I will not get my hopes up with this.

My guess is that the documentary will be complimented by a live album or live box set. Whatever is included in any potential box set though is anyone’s guess as they do have a great deal of recorded material to choose from.

It’ll be interesting to see what format the documentary will be released in. I hope it won’t be streaming only but the way things are going these days, I fear it will be. My hope would be for a proper Blu-ray release.

Can't really see a bidding war between Netflix and Amazon for an MK documentary to be honest.
