I have been listening to the clip from Boston 79 ("Where do you think you are going?") and it is so heartbreaking. Every time I hear it I feel so emotional and sad for MK at that time
And now I heard Southbound again from the same night and this song is also depressive. His voice is just absolutely destroyed. He also makes a mistake in Eastbound Train (shortly after 0.45 ) and the fun in it is gone. His playing that night is "awful", he is usually smooth and playful and here it is really staccato.
I also think about the R&J Version when he almost cries (
), I think it is some memories about Holly haunting him. And I think about the way he wrote Suicide Towerss, isolated himself in Bicknell's apartment and sat next to the bus driver on the tour instead of socialising with his band mates. Paul Cummins said that he was "lost" in Holly.
I don't get it, why was Holly Vincent so important to him? She seems kind of cold and distant. I guess MK could have gotten any beautiful girl he would have wanted so I don't think it was her looks either. They shared the same interest for guitars and motorcycles? And she was his first love since his early twenties when Kathy cheated on him? Other ideas? I just can't stop wondering about this topic.
